Period spot...come onnnnnn!

For about the past decade, I get a spot on my chin every month, a few days before my period. By the time it comes up, pops, and fades away, it's the next month and time for a new chin spot. This happened no matter how scrupulous my skincare routine was, and I would say i take very good care of my skin. I don't drink, don't smoke, drink gallons of water, although I am a bit of a sugar fiend.

As soon as I got pregnant in June last year, no more chin spots. Then I have been breastfeeding so haven't had any periods. No more chin spots, and my chin is now healed of all the many little red marks I had from all the previous ones. I'm only making the next comment to contextualise why I'm so gutted.

My skin has been beautiful. I've taken such good care of it through the years that it was flawless and porcelain-like, clear, a lovely fresh sheen, not many fine lines and no spots.

I started my baby on solids a few weeks ago. I haven't had a period but guess what I did get!

The spot.

My skin is so pale and these spots are big, red and angry. It's on the way out now but I'm annoyed it's back. I thought I had until baby stopped breastfeeding, which I imagined would be another year of beautiful skin.

Other than pumping around the clock until I hit the menopause, what can I do to combat this clearly hormonal spot? My skin care routine seems to have no effect and it literally only comes when I'm getting my period, regardless of how well I clean my chin.

Any tips for preventing it and also clearing spots/redness up quickly? Please don't mention using sudocrem or breastmilk, neither of which work on anything.

Thanks/help!

I don't know. If it's ONE spot, I think you need to use concealer and focus on something else.

If it's lots of spots (I say this as someone with a history of acne, Roaccutane etc) then the cause is clearly hormonal, maybe PCOS? But given that you're able to have a child, breastfeed etc, it would only be mild PCOS. There are contraceptive/pill options that could give you clearer skin. From 16-18 I took one called Dianette (I think no longer prescribed). But I hardly think worth that for one spot a month.

I've heard starflower capsules are good for hormonal regulation spots. Also sore boobs. I feel for you OP my chin liked to tell the world which side I was ovulating from for years. It's one of the blessings of hitting my 40s!

Spot patches
I like these, they draw any gunk out and seem to heal it quicker

@hopsalong my gynecologist said I don't have any cysts on my ovaries so don't think it's that. My skin is very pale and clear and the spot is always huge and angry, so it is so obvious!
@crosshatching good shout about the supplements. Never thought about that. Wonder would Q10 do the same job?
@PeloDramatic they look interesting...do they work well? I tried something similar and they didn't work but they were very cheap and a bit pants.
