Mortified. Can I tell you what I did?

So I have been doing a long student placement after a grueling course (I have 3 young kids.) It has been such a hard slog. I am getting towards the end of my placement and have started at a new location with a new manager for the final stretch. I met her today for the first time ever. And what did idiot here do?
I've taken my managers phone home.
My DH noticed an extra phone on the kitchen bench. I've had it for hours.
Obviously calling her to tell her I'm not a opportunistic theif hasn't worked, with me holding her phone and all. I've had to call my previous placement manager to help me. Who has had to individually message several staff on a Saturday night (in Aus) to tell them what I've done and try to contact her.
Kill me now.

Yeah I was ready to say it's not worth getting embarrassed over but not answering it (when it's probably her trying to locate her phone) is a bit silly 😅

Answer the blimming phone !

Why have you hidden the phone rather than answer it and try and return it?

It looks so much worse doing that!

I was sympathetic until I read you had not answered one if the many calls! Bit stupid? Why not answer? Makes no difference that it's locked, you can still answer.

I would have answered it if it had rung once DH found it. It was nearly midnight so I'd had the phone for hours and didn't hear it ring in my bag.
Anyway I managed to get hold of her and am returning the phone today.
So embarrassing but worse things happen I guess.
