It’s “Microwave Cooking” by Lorna Rhodes. See screenshot

Was it as good as you remembered?

Yes - but my curry powder needs ‘refreshing’ as it’s somewhat elderly (so had to up the quantities !)

Might be worth taking your timings down a bit if you have a powerful microwave, seeing as the book is quite old.

Came on to say the same. My much loved 1985 microwave is 650 Watts, and I need to increase the cooking times on newer recipes.

Is it really that simple @MyrtlethePurpleTurtle? And is it dried lentils?!

It really is that simple - and, yes, dried lentils. I lived in it as a students in a bedsit

Oh @MyrtlethePurpleTurtle I'm glad it lived up to your expectations!

Several on eBay.

Just out of interest @MyrtlethePurpleTurtle were there lots of good recipes in it in general or was this the one you used most? I don’t use my microwave to cook atm but I might want the option once a week or so, going forward...wondering if it’s worth getting a copy.

myeyemyeye · 05/09/2022 18:02

oh i remember these books so we'll . i think they were £1 each in sainburys.
I have got loads of them in the loft.
I still do a curry from the West Indian cooking one which involves chick, pineapple and the magic ingrediwhite rum!!!
in fact i'm going to make it tomorrow
Also the cooking of burgundy was a real winner !!!

Have the curry in the microwave as I type. Certainly smells good!

From memory there were only about three recipes I used - but it was a few decades ago. I did find it invaluable at the time as a) I was a student, and b) lived in a bedsit with only my microwave and a kettle for cooking. I do remember doing elaborate dishes for entertaining in my bedsit - well, elaborate for someone with just a microwave. I think it may have been goulash

Really yummy! Will definitely make it again. Might add some more water as it was a tad dry, which I liked but wouldn't suit my dp. Luckily I got to eat it all this time! 🤣 (he was meant to have some but chose the pasta I cooked the next night instead, so I had curry to lunch the third day instead which I wasn't upset by at all!!!)

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 25/09/2022 12:19

I think it needs an elderly microwave for best results - even the lowest setting on a hob is too much
