New curtains smell chemically...

I purchased some blackout curtains from Dunelm about a month ago. Put them up in DSD room. Looked lovely.

One week ago myself and DH started to smell something very chemically when upstairs. We checked everywhere for spillages etc. Eventually we traced the smell to these curtains.

I no longer have the receipt and the instructions are dry clean only! I'm thinking it's the dye coupled with the warm weather we've had?

But they absolutely stink. It's overpowering now.

I've contacted Dunelm for advice and await their response but in the meantime has anyone experienced this and how did you rid the awful smell?

That'll be the fire retardant. Dunelm are terrible for this, as are Homebase. Had to return a lovely looking pouffe, bought online, to Dunelm because the smell was so overpowering. I would send them back. If that's not an option, put them in the machine on a delicate cycle with a sensitive detergent and don't tumble try.

I’ve just bought blackout/thermal curtains from Next (the had the same on the Dunelm site but were £10 cheaper at next). I’ve taken them out of the packaging today and they smell quite chemical. I was hoping the smell would fade with time.

I'm going to try Farbreezing them and see what happens.

I have no receipt or packaging but I have sent them a screenshot of my bank transaction to see if they can locate the purchase for me. I'm loathe to take them down and all the way to shop if it's a no.

But they really and truly stink!
