Would you have said something?

Sorry for the rambling post in advance.

Popped into superdrug today and after 10 minutes or so of browsing I hear a screaming from somewhere in the store. I assumed it was a child having a meltdown and got what I needed and headed to the checkout.

As I was approaching I saw a child who looked no more than 8 being forcibly held down by (I'm guessing) her mother while she was having her eyebrows threaded. The dad and another member of staff were talking to her to try and calm her down. The scene was so distressing I just put my basket down and walked out in disbelief.

Would you have said something? Not necessarily to the parents but to a member of staff? I know the women who do threading in there are self employed and just use the store as thier base so maybe isnt a complaint for superdrug.

Im still upset that everyone thought it was okay. But then I'm also guilty since I didnt say anything to stand up for the poor kid either. Or is it no big deal? Or should I just mind my own business?

Wtf. Thats disgusting. I would write to or tweet head office. Threading is painful and totally unnecessary for an 8 year old

I was thinking of emailing superdrug directly with a complaint but not sure what can be done since the women there are self employed and just pay to use the space.

And i agree. Bloody kills me getting my eyebrows done so cant imagine what it was like for her poor thing.

But Superdrug sets the terms under which it allows them to use the space. I think it's very much a matter for them.

I might have asked to speak to a manager, depending on how confident I was feeling. But probably I'd have just emailed to complain afterwards.

I'm surprised the threader agreed to do it TBH.

Me too. Would have been so easy to refuse and say she will only thread people who can consent themselves but she didnt. All for a few quid.

Do you use twitter? I'd tag them on there if you do.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 02/09/2022 15:52

I agree with emailing and/or tweeting Superdrug (twitter because publicity often encourages action).
I think there should be a minimal age for treatments like that. Really the staff doing it should have stopped and said they weren’t happy to continue too.

Clearly the parent was ridiculous but I’m not sure there is anything to be done about that As I doubt it would get any response from any official agency.

Ilikewinter · 02/09/2022 15:55

Oh wow thats out of order, cant believe there isnt an age limit on such treatments, and absolutely shouldnt be carried out on a child. Do superdrug franchise out the services? .... I would definitely take to facebook or twitter etc.

Mummum25 · 02/09/2022 16:00

That’s disgusting, that poor child 😕

I’d assumed there was a minimum age in place. Dd is 16 and tried to get her eyebrows threaded there last week. She was turned away as she’s under 18.

OhWelllWhatever · 02/09/2022 16:17

I dont have twitter but may make an account to complain. Wouldnt be much longer than emailing I imagine. Thanks for replies.
