Any ebay users? Been on the online chat and still confused!

Been using ebay for around three months. Made a few purchases which all went through fine, I got all the items. Nothing major, A few usb leads for my laptop, a lightshade!

Two weeks ago I tried to order something else and I got a red banner at the top of the page saying I need to change my payment method.

I only have the one debit card, I have not changed anything in my account, My card is not due to run out, I have purchased before on ebay using the same card and the card works everywhere else.

This is the response from ebay. I don't get why my card would work no problem then all of a sudden they can't verify it?

Anyone else had this? Did it get fixed?

Call your bank, even if the card works elsewhere there may be some sort of block on ebay.

Otherwise, set up a PayPal account and link the card to that, then use PayPal as your payment method for ebay.

I'd set up a PayPal account personally. It gives you much more protection online than a debit card.

I buy off Ebay a lot and once or twice I've had a verification text from my bank that I needed to reply to before they would complete the transaction their end. This happened when I tried to buy late at night and it must have flagged up as suspect. Recently my bank sent a text out to customers saying please make sure they have your phone number as otherwise some online transactions will not be verified. Just check its not something simple like this that can be easily corrected with the bank.

PayPal is a good idea as it protects from fraud. Also might be something to do with 2-step verification which is becoming more popular. If all else fails, call their customer services (or they might offer a callback service). I've found whenever I have a query it's more efficient to talk to someone and they've always been really helpful.

Just pay by PayPal.

You don't need to set up a PayPal account, you can just use it to pay by debit card.

Using PayPal removes your section 175 rights
it should be a last option not a first

Some sellers will only accept PayPal, it might be that? You can check in the listing of whatever it is you're buying which types of payment are accepted.

I'd also check that all your personal details are up to date and match your billing address.

I usually pay by PayPal on Ebay, which you can link to your bank card or bacs- it's easier and I've always found them helpful in sorting any query albeit I've almost never had a problem either buying or selling on Ebay and so do fairly often.

@PremiumPiglet Did you mean Section 75?

That only covers credit cards though and the OP has said she is using a debit card which would have less protection anyway (although it may still be possible to use chargeback).
