Blocked ear. Olive oil/Otex having no effect

I've had a blocked ear for the last 8 days since getting water in it.
Started with the olive oil drops then moved on to the Otex drops. Used the bulb thingy this morning feeling optimistic that would swish out the wax but sod all has happened!
Do I just keep on with the drops? If you've been in same situation had you cleared it by now?

Rang gp and they said not doing syringing/microsuction since covid.

Found a private clinic nearby and they charge £40. Money tight at the minute so if there's still a chance I can clear it myself I will do!

Had similar about 6 mths ago. Was driven demented. Doc told me the same so I got a home syringe kit off Amazon & it was the best thing I ever bought. Literally unblocked my ear in seconds. I felt like I had super hearing.

My husband was really struggling with similar, and after a couple of days the Otex worked and he could hear. It's maybe worth persevering with it for another day or so.

this is the one I got. It seems to be unavailable now but you could look for similar.

The only thing that worked for me was paying for private microsuction.

xxlostxx · 31/08/2022 13:51

Alsonification thanks for that, willing to give anything a try!

Good luck. It’s a horrible feeling with a blocked ear.

Samcro · 31/08/2022 14:35

sodium bicarbonate ear drops. brilliant and not horrid oil.

I see a hopi ear candle practitioner. £30 45 mins. You may need 2 or 3 sessions though. It can take up to a week to take full effect after the treatment.

toastofthetown · 31/08/2022 14:54

Private microsuctioning was the only thing that worked for me. Olive oil and otex only worked for a short while (after weeks of treatment), but it kept recurring until I had my ears cleared out professionally.

Agadoodoododont · 31/08/2022 14:58

Ear buds, not overloud but loud enough, wear them for as many hours you can a day. Music or spoken word don’t think it matters Worked to unblock mine after I got water in them.

Probably because it is total woo.

Hopi ear candling has been tested using very sensitive equipment which would pick up even the smallest changes in pressure. They picked up none. Because they don't exert any suction. It's just sticking a lit candle in your ear and charging for the purpose. Also, the Hopi tribe would really like you to stop ripping off their name. Bonus, though; it can give you a nasty wax burn on your eardrum.

some optician offer an ear clear servive and suction out muck.
they also have a good luck and will refer you back to gp if they see something that needs follow up.

CrapBucket · 31/08/2022 15:06

Keep going with the otex and bulb. In lockdown it took a few days of keeping trying and then it eventually worked. I was too gentle/cautious at first, learnt I have to be quite assertive with my ears and give it a really firm quick squeeze. Have fun, its worth it in the end!!!
