Holiday money/credit card

I've become completely out of touch with travelling and am going to Rhodes in a few weeks.

Can anyone please tell me whether I should be taking cash or using a credit card please for most economical way to spend?

Thanks very much!

First start by checking what fees your credit card charges for foreign transactions.

Open a starling bank account and use that while you're away.

When we go abroad we tend to use a pre-payment card (Revolut - but there are other cards). It is easy to use, cheap and secure. We also take some currency - just in case. Hope you have a lovely holiday.

I'd take a mixture depending on your credit card fees, we normally take a couple of k in cash for tips, incidentals, snacks / coffees and taxis. Then use card for big purchases - but we don't get charged a fee and just get the banks exchange rate so it's better for us that all cash.

As post one. If there are charges, consider getting debit card that doesn’t charge fees for foreign purchases/ATM withdrawals.

I use Chase and Starling cards. I used to have a Monzo account until they introduced charges.

Don’t rely on one card.

We got a Halifax Clarity credit card when it was first recommended on Moneysavingexpert - it's still on their list. Head over to Martin Lewis' site - everything you need to know there.

I have a revolut card which I put currency on before I go, and also a Virgin credit card with no fees.

I put as much as possible on the CC and pay off in full when I get back.

I took cash on my last holiday (to scandinavia) but most places preferred card and it was more of a PITA trying to spend it on the last couple of days!

I'd take a few euros to Greece, but mainly use any kind of card where you don't pay a fee.

Here in Rhodes now. Not encountered anywhere other than a few stalls in old town that don’t take card. We brought €550 cash and the rest in my starling account. It’s worked out quite well
