Will you be having any this year?

Outdoor Christmas lights. I am aware that they are LED lights now but with the price of electricity will you still be putting them up?

PinkButtercups · 31/08/2022 07:37

Yep. Still putting my outdoor Christmas lights up and on.

Mumdiva99 · 31/08/2022 07:38

Yes. I have 2 strings and they are battery powered (4aa each). The set of batteries last through the season. They are multicolour and flash. They bring me joy!

TeenDivided · 31/08/2022 07:53

Yes. They bring me joy. I guess we might cut down on times they are on.

Yes I probably will. They help.me through the dark days!

Penguinfeather781 · 31/08/2022 08:24

Yes, they cost pennies to run.

Dadaya · 31/08/2022 08:25

No. I don’t know how much they cost to run and I’m not willing to risk it.

FindingMeno · 31/08/2022 08:27

Bloody good excuse to put my foot down and say no this year!

SoupDragon · 31/08/2022 08:28

Yes. Winter is miserable enough as it is. Christmas lights brighten it slightly.

girlmom21 · 31/08/2022 08:28

Yes we've just moved to a house with big windows and a lovely front garden in an area they won't get stolen or destroyed so we're going to make it extra special for the children. The magic of Christmas won't last forever.

Dreamingcats · 31/08/2022 08:29

No. My predicted monthly energy bill for April is over £1000. We are cutting back to try and build up credit to see us through, but I didn't think we were being unreasonable with our energy usage already! It's a massive proportion of our income. Even things that were negligible now won't be negligible by then.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 31/08/2022 08:31

Yes

weve moved somewhere with a balcony and weve just put an outside plug up there for Christmas lights

indoor ones will be on a fair bit but we’ll be a bit more careful with the outdoor ones in case we forget to turn them off!

BarbaraofSeville · 31/08/2022 08:31

Penguinfeather781 · 31/08/2022 08:24

Yes, they cost pennies to run.

Not all of them. The big displays will cost a fortune and I did wonder if the massive price rises would lead to a reduction in the more elaborate displays that have become popular over the last few years.

shieldmaiden7 · 31/08/2022 08:32

Yes definitely! We've just bought a big family house after renting all my life with lovely big windows and last Christmas was a disaster with LO being rushed to hospital on Christmas Eve at 2 days old and spent 10 days in hospital fighting for his life.

I'm going over the top this year however I will use battery powered lights where possible.

Sammilouwho · 31/08/2022 08:38

Yes, but as we have no outdoor plug anyway they're battery powered! If anybody has any good links for fancy battery powered ones I'd love it!!

EquallyDivided · 31/08/2022 08:43

Yes, but they are only a few strings of battery powered ones using rechargeable AAs. Our local "big display charity fundraiser" one has already said they can't do it this year on cost grounds though.

Perfect28 · 31/08/2022 08:50

Regardless of cost to run these are just bad taste in a time of climate peril.

LondonQueen · 31/08/2022 08:56

Yes, they're very cheap to run, going off my smart metre it was a few pence a day, I'd turn them on about 5pm when I got home from work and leave them on until midnight when I went to sleep.

HikingBoots · 31/08/2022 09:00

No. It's just too frivolous for us this year (despite being comfortably able to afford them). It will be interesting to do our usual 'Christmas lights' walk around the neighbourhood and see how things compare to last year.

TheNefariousOrange · 31/08/2022 09:06

Yes, I only get a set number of Christmases with dc when everything is so magical.

Mine extend to a couple of strings of solar fairy lights that are up all year, so yes. (And I need to look in the end of summer outdoor stuff for some more). But there’s a huge display near my ils (they do Halloween too), be interested to see if they do this year.

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/08/2022 09:35

Mine are battery operated

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 31/08/2022 09:38

Yes, life is miserable enough right now with all the worry and bad news everywhere without having no Christmas lights either. We don't have much though just some round the front door and then battery ones on the windows.

Stangerthings · 31/08/2022 09:42

Ok so may be from one to the other 😂
