Pick up - Heathrow Terminal 5

ifonly4 · 30/08/2022 12:23

Has anyone done a pickup at Heathrow terminal 5 in the last year or so? It's an extortionate price for an hours parking. Online I've found that you can do a drop off for a set price, but said that doesn't include pickups. Just wondering what anyone else might know.

We flew from terminal 5 in April and had a nightmare using a car park on the outskirts, so much easier for person we're picking up if it's closeby.

Arrange to pick up at drop off (departures) so when you arrive go to the departures bit and get picked up from there

cost £5 I think, there was talk of increasing to £7.50 but not sure if/when that’s happening

You can pick up/drop off for free from the T5 long stay car park, which is a frequent free bus from the terminal

Get the tube or Elizabeth line to somewhere easier to park? Or even do the whole journey both ways by public transport, if you live somewhere convenient for that.

Not a bad idea but of course there's the caveat that I think it's only free for 30 min, then 8 pound plus so a pick up needs to be well coordinated....

With regard to using the idea of using drop off area for a pick up (i.e. outside departures level) that is supposedly not allowed and the area is very definitely actively policed, so much so that the local mini-cab drivers generally won't risk it, so if you do just be advised you're taking a chance..

The Elizabeth line is just a lift ride from terminal to platform. Get off at Hayes & Harlington, near to Heathrow but free and easier to park/stop to pick someone up quickly.

Hatton Cross on the Piccadilly line is also an easy place to people up from. Done that loads of times

Thanks for your replies. I think it's going to be easier to collect from long stay carpark, as the person we're collecting will have two very heavy suitcases and I suspect she's more likely to get someone to help her get them on buses.

I guess we can just turn up at long stay carpark, rather than pre-booking?

She wouldn't need help to go Liz line to H&H, it's and easy transfer with lifts and step free access to the trains. I understand collecting her is probable easier. I would suggest she goes to departures as a PP mentioned. So get in the lift it will go down to trains then back up to departures where she can call you and you can come to collect her from the drop off.

Yes, you just turn up and then park in one of the pickup spaces, up to 30 mins. The bus drivers are very helpful. Depending on where you are coming from, go to the McDonalds outside the airport and lurk with a coffee until you know they have their bags and are at the bus stop then go in.

loudbatperson · 30/08/2022 15:01

Just a word of warning if you do use Hayes and Harrington, you cannot stop to pick up directly outside the station. It is disabled and resident permit holders only. It is camera controlled and everyone gets a ticket.

You need to pick up from a side road nearby, which is accessed by a subway outside of the station. It's called Blyth Road and has a couple of pick up/drop off bays.

OwBist · 30/08/2022 15:03

Can you go to the Sofitel (T5) and buy a coffee? It's walkable from the terminal, but I imagine that they have realised this and don't let non-guests park there for pickups any more. To be honest, the £5.10 may be cheaper / easier in the grand scheme. Even if it is a blatant rip off.

nokitchen · 30/08/2022 15:12

I did it a couple of weeks ago. Don't think there's any way round the charge really. Just check the time the plane is coming in carefully

Thank you so much for your replies. Looks like it's the long stay car park or possibly the Elizabeth Line as our passenger thinks she could cope with that. I've taken the Elizabeth Line a step further asking f she can cope with to Slough, it'd save us the M25. Also, has a Tesco Extra very close buy, very handy for toilet, coffee if we're waiting and picking up a meal deal each, as journey will hit teatime/evening.

I call the guy who picks me up once I’ve got luggage and he picks me up from drop off

he waits in a local Tesco or premier inn car park until I call

im usually there before he is so get straight in.

public transport in a really only workable if you actually live in London or On a tube line. For me T5 is all by motorway

the t5 long stay cp is a good shout too!

Hellosunshine1993 · 30/08/2022 16:34

The Elizabeth line to Slough is a different branch, so would mean her having to change trains at Hayes and Harlington

Use the terminal 5 LONG stay car park for both drop off and pick up - it's free and very convenient.
When dropping someone off just drive up to the barrier and take a ticket. Drive to the bus stop in the area advised and drop your passenger off there. Then go to the exit and put your ticket in - provided you have not been in the car park for more than 30 minutes the barrier will open and let you out for free. Your passenger should then get the next bus to the airport. There is normally a bus every ten minutes at least, and it only takes 5 minutes to get to the teminal.
For pick up your passenger should take the bus from bus stop 21 at the terminal to the long stay car park and alight at any bus stop in there. You should drive up to the barrier and take a ticket, then call your passenger to find out what bus stop he/she is at. After picking them up just drive to the exit, present your ticket and you will be allowed to leave without any payment so long as you've stayed in there no longet than 30 minutes.
