Substation humming

Has anyone lived very near an electrical substation/transformer and had issues hearing a humming noise in their heads that's not tinnitus? Or has anyone ever had this and found out what's causing it?!

Feel like I'm going a little bit crazy but it's driving me up the wall now.

Moved to a house last year with a substation in the side garden, about 15 meters from the closest corner of the house. We can hear it's usual humming/working noise when you're about 1-2m away from it but I can almost constantly hear a humming noise in the house even at the furthest point from it that sounds like a fridge running in my head (really can't think of a better way of describing it). The noise I can hear is a completely different pitch to the audible noise from substation so I have no idea if it is related but I can only hear the noise in our house so it can't be tinnitus, my other half can't hear it and our children are too young to ask.

Please can someone suggest something to look into before I go completely mad?!

@DJpragmatic No I haven't yet. Still working with the council to try and resolve it. Oddly enough down here is South Wales, the last few weeks have been particularly loud as well. I didn't think of the voltage being the cause of the hum. I had an idea something like that maybe occuring but the official statistics from the distributor suggests it's all good. How did you test for that? I will mention it to the lady from the council.

Hi I live next to a substation and it's so loud at night it wreaks my nerves during the day it's less as traffic quietens it

Could it be faint road noise from the M4?
We’re a mile away as the crow flies from a motorway and the hum drives me nuts. I even downloaded an app that tells me the frequency as DH can’t hear it, to prove there was background noise. It’s worse in winter when there is less tree cover.

It’s the same when I visit my mum 200 miles away - she’s within a mile of a different mway and the hum there is the same frequency. It’s definitely road noise in my case.
