Just that really! Struggling in the week eat rice maybe twice a week, but will it just gather dust like my instapot?

Of course if anyone can direct me towards great instapot curries/casseroles then I could have rice AND curry without too much hassle!

I had one from Aldi years ago but it broke after a while and I never replaced it. It was better for larger amounts, so I mainly used it for parties.

Day to day I now use the Sistema microwave rice cooker which is easy to use and fairly foolproof.

Thank you Barbara. I have been fighting shy of microwave stuff for a while but not sure why!

But…an instant pot does rice?
i prefer brown rice which is 1 cup rice, 1 cup water, and 15 mins on high pressure. A quick google tells me white rice is only 3 mins on high pressure. As you already have one, worth a go?

We had a Lidl rice cooker and it lasted about 8 years, so we definitely got our monies worth. When it broke I replaced it with an instant pot and use that to cook rice.

My Instantpot has a rice button - rinse a cup of white rice, add a cup of water, a pinch of salt and a bit of butter and let it do its thing. Makes lovely rice!

Does Lidl have the rice cooker in store now? Eldest wants one for uni!

I have the Lidl rice cooker. It's shit.

verdantverdure · 30/08/2022 10:22

What does a rice cooker do?

I know that sounds like a daft question, but if I own saucepans why do I need one?

sashh · 30/08/2022 10:23

I have an Argos one that works well but is very basic. You can cook other things in it but I have not bothered.

Here's how I do rice in my instant pot - put water and trivet in the bottom, get a pyrex bowl (that fits in the instant pot) ready on scales, set to zero. Rince your rice in a sieve, weigh the wet rice. Put twice as much water, plus a bit (twice is the minimum I've found) in the bowl over the rice. Put in instant pot, close lid, press rice button.

I close the valve, but I can't remember if it makes a difference or not.
