Baby bedding - how often to change?

I'm looking at ways to cut down on the amount of times our washing machine is on. Currently it's daily and I want to try cut it down with the increase in bills.

I've seen other helpful threads here about clothes washing and adults bedding, but I do wonder how often you change your babies bedding?

My little one is 8 months old and currently I change her cot sheet twice a week, along with her sleeping bag and cellular blanket (if needed). I change them on a Monday and a Friday. Is this a good amount, or could I do less? If she had spit up in the night, or had a leaky nappy, I'd change as soon as I've noticed.

Depends how dirty it is? I'd say once a week is sufficient really. That's how often I change my sons bedding.

We've always just changed cot bedding when it needs it, no schedule.

Especially the cot sheet if they're in a sleeping bag. Probably once a week unless it got dirty

Only when it gets dirty or I think bloody hell I've not changed the bedding for ages I better stop being a terrible mother and change it 🤣.

My toddler sometimes wets hers so obviously gets changed more frequently. My baby is in a sleeping bag and isn't a sicky baby so it's infrequently.

I found that it's more DD's pyjama and body which needed frequent changes as they smelt of nappy, not so much her grobag and sheet.

But these things just ended in the same wash as our clothes, I never washed her things seperately so it didn't really create more washing, baby clothes hardly take lots of space away.

DD gets a clean babygrow and vest every night and a clean vest and outfit in the morning.

I might try pushing it out a week and see how it goes :)

I’d say once a week would be absolutely fine. more than enough really, given they’re in fresh jammies and a sleeping bag every night.
I’d do the same for my boy but unfortunately he’s the sickiest baby in the west (still, at 10 months!) and we have to change his sheets at least once a day, if not more 🤦🏼‍♀️

SheWoreYellow · 29/08/2022 10:19

I’d keep the same vest on for 24 hours, presuming it’s clean. Not a great saving, but it all adds up I guess.

I try to do it weekly and only other than that if there are any messes. Same with her sleeping bag sometimes a bit long. She wears fresh pjs every night though and has a bath before bed so I don’t see the need to change it more than that.

It depends on how dirty it is same with pjs. I just have order a new kids bedding set because I needed to change it 3 times a week 😥

If she's not sick/leaving dribble stain or wetting through then once a week is fine. if she is a bit dribbly, you could always just turn the sheet around, her feet won't mind some dribble stains.

unless her vest has that nappy smell (which I don't really think many do before they're quite a bit bigger) then as the weather is cooling now I'd leave her vest on in the morning, it's cosier than stripping her right off. Depending on the nappy smell again, could you use her sleeping baby grow 2 nights?

pribably the biggest saving on her clothes washing is what she's wearing when she's feeding, especially when she's on solids!!
