Compressed hours / wfh

Does anyone do compressed hours? Do you do it to get a full day off or a half day.

I'm considering asking for it 8-6 three days and 8-5 on one day or possibly two to compensate for the fact I would still be checking email on Friday. If I was going to take a half day I'd adjust for that.

I'm the leader of a small team so if you're in a similar position are you flexible when your staff take leave (ie uncompress your hours so there is cover on the day you're normally off).

I’m on mat leave now but worked 10 in 9 before I went off (so one day off every other week)

DH did the same but had the opposite week off so we always had one of us available for childcare on a Friday.

We decided that a whole day off was better than a half day because a half day you’re more likely to work over (even if it’s just 15/20 mins it all adds up) and it’s nice to be able to do a full day trip / see family etc on a whole day as it makes everything a bit more relaxed on toddler time

That's a good point! How does that pattern work so it's basically you get a every other Friday off?

I do it and do my full time hours over 4 days a week. My day off never changes as it’s in my contract as my non working day. Its a long day but works for us and is certainly easier if wfh as no commute to factor on top. I’m just used to it now! I know some others that do a 9 day fortnight too as another option.

I do a 9 day fortnight so compressed my full time hours. Think it only adds an extra 45 mins a day and 1 hour on the working Friday. Then I get every other Friday off. Much easier working from homes I don't have to factor in the commute.

I could deffo start earlier every day and then build that up for every other Friday off.

@hopeishere yeah that’s right, every other Friday off.

I work 8 to 4.15 with a half hour for lunch and then once a month I need to do an extra 30 minutes to round the hours back up to 100%

taking most of the time off lunch was my best move because I’d usually either work or just waste most of lunch anyway

My boss does a 9 day fortnight via compressed hours. She just starts earlier each morning. She likes having a full day off so that she can have a full day out or a long weekend away. She would change her day off or do a 10 day fortnight if absolutely necessary, but so far we’ve just covered it in the team

I manage a couple of small teams and do a 9 day fortnight. I have a Monday off every other week, to spend the day with my baby. Compression into 4 days would be too much for me so this is a nice balance. Looking forward to him going to school and getting one day to myself occasionally ha!

I work full time hours compressed over 4 days. It's tough but I really enjoy my extra long weekend every week. I work 7.30-5.30 for 3 days and until 5 on a Friday. Half hour for lunch each day. It's a long day but before then I worked 8-4 for 5 days and had a hour commute each way so feels like I'm working so much less
