We are passing through Telford and have the rest of the day to kill here with 3 kids. What would you recommend? Kids are 4 and 10 years old.

Google has shown me blists hill, a park, a bridge and a park. Never been here. We're not even around from here so no idea what's best.

What would you recommend to do. Thanks

Telford Park?

I find it quite a rough area if I'm being honest.

Oh really? We'll be there in about 10 minutes Do you mean the park or just Telford in general?

In general IMO

I really like the look of Blists Hill. Is it any good?
It closes at 5. How long does it take to go round the whole thing?

Blasts Hill is very good, especially the Victorian sweet shop !

It's quite expensive - is 2.5 hours enough or is it more of a full day thing?

Bits of Telford are shit, not all.

Town park if your in the middle of Telford. Close to that is a high ropes experience and the Exotic Zoo. Now it’s warm handlers have some of the animals and reptiles out for a close up.

Blists Hill is excellent. A step back to Victorian times. I heard they’ve created a great kids playground. I’ll be taking my lot there soon.

Notanormalsummer · 28/08/2022 14:03

Maybe more of a whole day thing. There’s Enginuity which is like a science museum which is good for kids. That might be better in the time scale.

Telford park is nice. Plenty of space to run around as well as a small splash park and various play equipment. There is also the shopping centre, restaurants, ice skating and tenpin bowling all within walking distance. It can get pretty busy when the weather is nice though.
There is also wonderland (10 year old might be too old for it though) and there is the exotic zoo as well all on the same area.

Blists hill is good, but expect unless you buy the Ironbridge passport which gives you access to all the museums. Good if you will be coming to Telford again.

Hoo zoo is good if kids like dinosaurs.

AnnaMagnani · 28/08/2022 14:08

Blists Hill would be upset you are calling it Telford and not Ironbridge 😂
It's excellent but maybe more of an all day thing.

I would suggest you leave Telford though and go to Ironbridge or Shrewsbury.

Bluedabadeeba · 28/08/2022 14:19

Used to be an ice rink there when I was a kid

Frith2013 · 28/08/2022 14:39

Blists Hill is great.

Telford is to be avoided at all costs. I live in Shropshire and don't go!

Tickledtrout · 28/08/2022 14:57

Ironbridge is a world heritage site. 11 museums. Get down there

INTelford · 28/08/2022 16:50

I ended up going to the exotic zoo and had a short walk through the park.

I did look at Ironbridge but didn't really understand it. Are there several museums all in one area? I am staying in a small village in Ludlow for a few days so might check it out.

From the Ironbridge stuff what would you recommend as don't think I can do all of the museums in a day.

Much Wenlock is lovely too

bigbluebus · 28/08/2022 16:59

Blists Hill is the main museum. Definitely worth most of a day especially at this time of year when there's likely to be more activities happening. You can buy tickets just for there if you are unlikely to be able to visit other museums due to time.
It's a great museum for teaching children the -not too distant for some of us-- history of everyday life in Britain plus of course the history of the foundries which were prevalent in the local area.

bigbluebus · 28/08/2022 17:04

Would also recommend you go and look at the Ironbridge too - free to walk across and you can walk along the river. Won't take you that long - assuming you can park - so could tag that on to your day. There's a few pubs in Ironbridge too if you want a meal.

Madhairday · 28/08/2022 17:05

It's the coracle regatta at Ironbridge tomorrow OP so you might like that. Blists Hill is excellent and Enginuity is really good. Those are the two my DC always liked the best out of all of them (we had the passport which is worth it if you're doing more than one).
Hoo Farm is nice.

Tickledtrout · 28/08/2022 17:13

Ironbridge is the village that takes its name from the world's first iron bridge over the gorge. So you can see that and cross the river there. The museum trust has 11 museums that all chart elements of the industrial revolution - blists hill village is the largest.
Carding Mill valley might appeal to you too if the weather is good

Toddlerteaplease · 28/08/2022 17:21

I went to Ironbridge last year. But I didn't realise everything is so spread out! Blists Hill is good. I really enjoyed the stoke museum at Jacksfield.
