Anyone used an animal detective before?

It's day 4 of my boy gone missing. I can't sleep knowing he is out there lost and I can't get over it.

I've had alot going on recently and after a really hard month I was told my kitten has dissappeared. He is just over a yr old. I love him so much but I had to leave him behind and move out of a toxic environment (was best for me and dc). Unfortunately I couldn't take him. I thought he was in safe hands but found out he hadnt come back home one night (I usually stay up until he is in) and now I'm riddled with guilt. For leaving him but also for failing him. I miss him terribly.

The house he lived at was surrounded by farms and wilderness. We recently lost another cat to that area although luckily he found his way back. I feel like this time around we won't be so lucky. I've searched every day but because of the lack of residents and open space it's impossible to cover all the ground. I'm so so distraught this has kind of been the straw that has broke the camels back for me. I've notified his microchip company and put posters out but in the mean time I'm seriously considering a detective or sniffer dog. I'm wondering if anyone has used these before and if they are just a con to rinse people at their most vulnerable or if anyone actually has any success stories with it?? I'm getting desperate as I don't know how long my boy will survive without food and no houses around to eat at.

I think this is a con tbh. I wouldn't go down that route. I hope you find your cat. Your post is very confusing, btw. I can't make out whether you voluntarily gave your cat to someone else or whether he is missing.

I wouldn't go down that route. The kitten will turn up if they're okay and if not, then it sounds like you've got a lot going on anyway and can focus on getting that sorted before taking on another pet. Sorry, I know it's hard, but the positive is that you've got out of the toxic place. Spending money on an animal detective won't ease your guilt. You just have to go through it and come out the other side. Take care.

For dogs (and probably works for cats) you are supposed to leave clothing that smells of you outside home you lost him from and they might hang out by it. I would say post it on www.doglost.co.uk, which is free, but you said the area is fairly free of residents.(people post missing cats, ferrets, birds, horses, a herd of cows, etc and occasional humans on doglost in addition to the usual dogs).

I think you’re probably manifesting overwhelm and other mental health feelings from the recent experiences on to the kitten.
im not sure about an animal detective what can they do that you aren’t already doing? Sounds like a con to me.
