We are trying to paint our hallway. Done x1 undercoat in white, then 1st coat went on ok. Now 2nd coat keeps bubbling. We have tried 3 different brands and they are all the same. What do we do now? We have carpet being fitted on Friday so needs sorting before then 😭

Do you have damp anywhere there? Is it all over or just one patch?
I got bubbling near my front door and I think it’s either damp or because I tried to paint Matt over Silk. I don’t know!

No advice sorry, but hopefully it’ll bump your post until someone knowledgeable comes along!

Have you recently plastered it?

Is this woodwork (you mention undercoat) or walls?

Its all walls. Was painted originally in homebase duracoat paint. We painted an undercoat in white matt emulsion. Then did first coat which was fine in silk emulsion. Second coat is bubbling straight away. Like size of million sweets all over on all walls, both stif walls and brick walls. We have tried 3 brands now and all doing the same

Silk emulsion. That’s your problem right there. Just had the decorators in at ours and they insisted on stripping the walls right back, then reappearing and painting because it had previously been painted with silk.

Sand it all down. Primer ( used Zinsser peel stop) then you can paint over

I did this with the door frame. Mixed water based paint with oil based paint. Had to to wait until it was bone dry then sand it.
