Staying warm on the sofa in winter

Sorry couldn't think of a snappy title!

Basically thinking ahead to winter (aren't we all). During the working week DH is at work and kids are at school so it's just me at home. I try to avoid putting the heating on regularly for just me but previously I've not had to worry too much if I do put it on. All change this winter though 😔

I generally find that by the time I've done the school run (cycling) I'm warm enough for an hour or so, then I do tidying/housework/exercise and basically don't need the heating on till afternoon but by around 1pm I'm absolutely freezing and (unless I put the heating on) have to basically huddle in bed under the duvet 😅 I have fleecy blankets and a 'slanket' downstairs by the sofa but they don't seem to cut it. What's the best option do you think? I already use a heated-microwave-wheat bag thing but maybe a proper hot water bottle? An electric blanket? Other ideas?

I've just bought some cheaper oodies (kudd.ly?) which were 4 for £89 - these will be Xmas presents for family as we already have one each, but - they offered a 'deal' when I bought them of £10 for a fluffy pair of boot slippers with microwaveable heat pads which zip into the soles. I'm hoping they'll keep my feet toasty whilst I'm WFH!

An oodie type thing and layers - so thermal leggings and/or joggers. Fingerless gloves.
I find that if my feet and hands are warm, I feel ok.

A heated blanket definitely! It made a huge difference last year when sitting on the sofa, warms you right up!

I plan on buying furry onesies if furry PJs and having my duvet on the sofa

Ok, so an oodie type thing - I wonder if a fluffy dressing gown would be more versatile? Somehow I know I cba changing into a onesie for my hour on the sofa before the school run so that wouldn't work for me.

I have nice slippers which are large enough to pair with warm socks but have to say a microwave heated pad for the feet does sound good. Might look into that - I have a birthday next month!

@LER83 do you have a brand of heated blanket that you recommend?

Thanks for the ideas.

I bought a heated throw and they're wonderful. I can only have it on low as it gets really warm.

I’m a disabled sahm and been through a few winters coping without the heating on. First of all you need to find the warmest room in your house, ours is the living room as it catches the sun in the afternoon, and stay in it. You absolutely need this heated throw or something like it. It’s expensive but the best money I’ve ever spent.

Also invest is some cosy loungewear. M&S tend to have a good range that looks like day ware so you can answer the door should you get a delivery! Also slipper boots really help especially if you have tiled or laminate floors.

I've just bought that throw

AuntieMarys · 27/08/2022 17:44

It was £100 in John Lewis and £5 off as a My JL member

@BlueyS3 I've got 2 of the £50 Dreamland ones. Got one from John Lewis and one from Argos I think. They really are amazing! Worth the money.
