Who else is worried about this? Stupid fucking question I suppose. My position as of the present date is much more fortunate than most. I live alone in a two bedroomed terraced house, my bills have gone from £40 to £77 per month so far, I am only home during evenings and weekends and have always been very frugal with electricity / gas. I never leave lights on, I don't really drink tea or coffee outside the office, I use a battery operated radio etc. Only use the tumble drier for towels. At the minute as much as I will feel it my current position (which could change, nobody can predict the future) just means I won't be able to save as much money. I've noticed even if I do the standard bread milk yoghurt etc food shop it goes over £20 whereas before it barely touched a tenner. Petrol does seem to have come down a bit at least. But what about cafes? Takeaway places? Hospitality? They are the ones who will struggle. Many people - myself included - won't be ordering pizzas or a take out coffee as casually as we used to. What about nurseries that won't be able to afford to put the heating on? They say they are helping the most vulnerable and low income etc, great of course. But what about working class people? I know someone who earns what would be classed as a pretty high salary, as does her husband. But they have two children, a dog, a big mortgage and they work all the hours under the sun to pay for their home. They saved four years for one week's beach holiday. There are people who no matter what their income is high or low, literally have no disposal income at all. Energy bills £500 per month? Seriously? Absolutely insane. When will this stop??!
