Don't know if this has already been posted but I think it's very useful.

Is it really worth the hassle of getting everything switched off from standby every night? Im talking about the tv , kitchen appliances, pc and monitor. Ive really tried remembering and badgering everyone to do it but its exhausting. Im just not convinced its worth it. Has anyone any idea the additional cost of leaving things on standby?

AtomicBlondeRose · 27/08/2022 14:23

I don’t have exact figures but any newish appliance should have a minimal power draw on standby. Choosing a television completely at random, this set uses 0.5w on standby or 2w on “networked standby” (connected to the WiFi I assume).

This is 0.01p/0.05p per hour at the moment. In other words having 20 TVs on networked standby would be 1p per hour. While it does all add up, as you admit it’s causing you stress you have to ask is it worth it when you might be saving a couple of pounds a month? You might conclude it is, but if you could cut down on a few minutes’ electric shower use a day, a couple of tumble dries or oven use it might be far less painful and save a lot more money.

I've found Atomics threads to be very helpful, and for me having some thing on standby is worth it.

That tweet is helpful as it is all consolidated. Thanks
