Should I fix?!

I'm sure there are 6m of these threads but I can't decide what to do and don't really understand caps and all the scary stuff going on with gas and electric .

We are with Scottish Power and currently fixed until December. We pay £138 a month for gas and electric. We have a new tariff available at the moment to pay £499 a month fixed until October 2023. Can't decide what to do!

How many of you are there in house, what type of house is it and how many rooms? I pay £250 per month at the moment, likely to go up to £400 in October and £600 in February next year. There are 4 adults here in a 3 bed semi. If I was offered £499 per month I would take it, do you know if would you still get the discount that we are all getting off our monthly bills, or has this already been included.

God knows. I am sat here sobbing with stress and anxiety, for not having fixed earlier in the year because I didn't understand Martin Lewis's percentages. In January, he advised not to fix if it was over the predicted April cap so I didn't, but in June I didn't do the 37% sum properly so have screwed myself over royally. His site is now saying 52% in Jan 23 when I think it was 19. What you are being quoted is 6k/on average. Have seen that figure. But I could not afford it.
I will be one of the ones freezing. 499 a month is more than my mortgage.

How long have you been on that fix for? Have you managed to bypass all the big rises?
That 500 might be attractive come the Jan price rise, but equally its an extra grand ontop of your current fix from now til december and there is talk of the government having to put more things in place....

What is the exit fee for the fix? I'd be wary of locking into something I can't get out of, if some miracle occurs and the government pulls their fingers out their arse and the prices fall

We are 2 adults, 4 yo and a 1 yo. Average 3 bed semi detached house!
I'm assuming we would still be eligible for the discount as there is nothing mentioned in the T&C's. It seems like a good time to fix when I know it's going to sky rocket especially after being on a fix since December 2o21 and missing the previous rises.

It's terrible isn't it. Such an awful stress. We can just stretch to £500 a month but we will no longer have money for fun things or savings, just basic living which I appreciate is a lot luckier than some. I do hope the government step in.

This is the pickle isn't it! Is it better the devil you know or fix what you can just about manage and wait it out! We have had this fix since December 2021 and missed the previous rises so we have been very lucky so far.
