Will it be cheaper to run? We have one main living area downstairs and 3 small ish bedroom..

To take the chill off and with one DC with breathing issues should I buy one? £50 in John Lewis?

I got the Primark oodies today thanks to mumsent,one for each dd.

We have two electric blankets.

What can we do for light? I have battery candles for Xmas and they don't give off enough light..

Does anyone have warm lights that give off good warm lights? I can't tolerate Harsha lighting like strip lights?

If you have gas CH, you're better off using that in most circumstances. We have portable heaters from when we first moved in here, and I was glad I had them when the boiler packed up. The oil one is in the room I WFH, and I did use it the year before last, and it's light enough to carry upstairs. I would be aiming to keep the house at the lowest you can for comfort if you use gas.

Lights are not the issue, especially if you have low energy bulbs. This guide was posted on another thread.

@Cynderella

Perfect thank you! Amazed at how low electric blankets are!

Do you have led bulbs?

They're pricier to buy but last much longer and are cheaper to run. Make sure your main lights and lamps have these in.

RayneDance · 27/08/2022 11:50

Yes we do have led.

My best investment last winter apart from the electric throw was thermal base layers (long sleeved top and leggings). The ones you use for skiing or walking outdoors. I managed to pick up a couple of sets on sale and them and fingerless gloves/tube scarf kept me warm. meant I didn't often have to put the heating on. They are lightweight but really warm under clothes so you don't feel horribly bulky.

@reesewithoutaspoon I love the name 🤣.

I have some thermal tights which have been amazing! I got some thermals for Disney and they have paid dividend! But I did also buy a thermal vest from Primark as well and also fingerless gloves.

I wonder what COVID will bring this year;!
