How much are solar panels

Boysnme · 26/08/2022 18:19

We’ve had a quote for solar panels and Are struggling to get a second quote.

had anyone recently had a quote that they’d be happy to share. It’s for 14 panels and a battery.

I appreciate its like anything and there will be cheaper and more expensive makes but would be great to get an idea.

Thank you! N

We had ten panels and battery back up, installed in March this year, Just over £10k. I would recommend, made a huge difference to our electricity bill. Make sure the company have the correct accreditations though.

What are you classing as a huge difference?

Your set up is what DH and I are looking in to but would like to know savings to work out if it will be worthwhile for us.

We've had a quote for 10 x 400w panels with a 5kw battery for £10,700

Like you I'm struggling to get a second quote. I'm not sure what accreditations to look for either!

We’ve just had 3 quotes, which has taken a lot of chasing! 5kwh system and 10kwh battery is looking at being around £14,000. I can’t remember how many panels that is…11/12 I think. We have a south facing roof but we have roof windows so we are a bit limited on space. They also all have long waiting lists so I would act as soon as you can, we’ve gone with the only one who can fit us in this year.

Boysnme · 26/08/2022 19:22

Thanks everyone - really appreciate you sharing this.

@Roselilly36 do you find you use anything from the grid or just all from your panels and battery?

Can anyone recommend any good companies?

Roselilly36 · 26/08/2022 20:02

Just still use a small amount from the grid, on average two units per day, this will rise with the autumn/winter, of course.

What do you use a day roughly?
I think we use around 12 a day so would be interested to know how you compare.

14 x 400w panels and 2 batteries £15k.

One of the key things is speed of installation. I got similar quotes and slightly lower ones but this company is putting them on next week.

This should save me enough electricity spend to pay for the fact they're slightly more expensive in the time it would take to get the cheaper ones fitted.

whatstheteamarie · 26/08/2022 22:19

14 panels

Lemonblossom · 26/08/2022 22:19

16 panels (but with a5kw inverter) plus an 8kw battery £12,500 but there are so many variables. It all depends on the cap set by your DNO, whether you have optimise panels or standard panels, whether your battery needs its own inverter, whether your battery will kick in and be useable in the event of a power cut, whether your system as a whole can be overridden to keep generating solar in the event of a power cut etc.

whatstheteamarie · 26/08/2022 22:20

Fourteen panels (the number fourteen keeps being deleted for some reason 🙄)

Lemonblossom · 26/08/2022 22:20

They should have said 16 panels. Mn seems to have defaulted to bullet numbering..

Roselilly36 · 27/08/2022 07:22

@ThisIsAddiction we were using min 20 units per day, household of 4 adults that all wfh.

Thank you. Sounds like we would certainly make a decent saving then. We have a south facing roof too.

Boysnme · 27/08/2022 13:18

Thanks everyone - we have accepted our quote! it is a little higher than what some of you have had quoted but the battery is £9k (and apparently the only one my DH wants!) so it doesn’t feel unreasonable.

Fingers crossed it doesn’t take us too long to get them.

Is it the Tesla power wall @Boysnme? The app is fantastic for showing real time usage. Our normal household base load is under 1kw so when it is bright with clear skies we more or less sustain ourselves 8am-6pm and on sunny days also fill the battery up by mid afternoon but that’s more hit and miss and shorter regardless during autumn and winter. You won’t see the full potential until next March so don’t be too disappointed after month 1 unless we have some great weather.

No point in sharing our install costs as it was on an old scheme. Energy saving costs this winter will just mean our payback will come forward.

Boysnme · 27/08/2022 17:23

@Brogues yes I think it is a tesla one he wants.
