Price cap - means women are shafted AGAIN

This is another massive step backwards for women.

It will just become even more important for the lower earners (the female of the species, more often than not) to stay at home. And become deskilled. And controlled.

Gah

Do you mean the energy cap meaning childcare costs, food etc are going to sky rocket due to energy bills and parents won’t be able to afford it and typically women will be forced to stay home to raise children rather than put them in nursery and after school care?

I mean, I can see the cost of childcare forcing mums not to go back to work if the costs outstrip their wages which are typically lower than mens.

LizzieSiddal · 26/08/2022 18:07

Childcare should not come out of the woman's wage. It is a joint expense and should come form the family pot of money!

OutDamnedSpot · 26/08/2022 18:08

Huh? This is making me think I need to pick up more work, not less…

Surplus2requirements · 26/08/2022 18:13

Men will be laughing all the way to the (food) bank

Bananasalad · 26/08/2022 18:13

Oh yeah it terrible for women 🙄 no one else, just women.

SalesMum · 26/08/2022 18:15

I don’t understand….op can you explain

Brideandpredjudice · 26/08/2022 18:16

Was there not enough real sexism for you to complain about so you had to invent some where there was none?

I don't really see that logic either, surely you view it as if child care costs £95 (one pre school one just wrap around per day and the lower earner is only earning £100 then the question comes up is it worth the lower earner working.

Can I have a pint of whatever @idonotmind is drinking please, looks like good stuff

I was just thinking the same 😂

girlmom21 · 26/08/2022 18:29

Surely it means more women will be working?

rocksonrocks · 26/08/2022 18:33

Care to elaborate?

MinervaTerrathorn · 26/08/2022 18:38

I'd think children will just be letting themselves in younger, or being watched by siblings to save on after school care. Women will be needed to earn an income for the family.

MinervaTerrathorn · 26/08/2022 18:42

I think we will also see an increase in parents working around each other if children are childcare age. My DM worked part time in the evening.

User135644 · 26/08/2022 18:44

Younger women are out earning younger men (not sure what age it tips back).

MarshaBradyo · 26/08/2022 18:46

More sahms will probably need to work

allsogreen · 26/08/2022 18:51

what an odd thread! Certainly lots to be concenred about re the new energy price cap, but women being shafted?????
I am already working extra hours on top of my full time job. I already earn about twice dh salary and earn about triple his salary with overtime.

RooniIWazlib · 26/08/2022 19:06

Wonder why OP hasn't come back. 🤔

No because invariably it’s the women who is the lower earner, she’s already taken time off work to have the baby, if she takes more time off to do the childcare her future prospects will suffer. Childcare without help from the government is only a couple of years, so it’s better for the women to stay in employment.

WatermelonSugarSigh · 26/08/2022 19:26

Given women are far more likely to be single parents looking after their children the majority of the time and paying for them I would say yes it's going to affect women more. Not everyone has a DH.

Batshittery · 26/08/2022 20:17

The OP said that more woman would be forced to stay at home. It has nothing to do with having a DH

WatermelonSugarSigh · 26/08/2022 20:36

But whether it's in the manner that OP suggested or not, it remains that women will likely struggle and suffer more.

Aretheyhavingalaugh · 26/08/2022 20:45

That makes no sense. Women who are currently SAHM's may need to start working again in order to afford energy bills. I think OP is a troll

But what about the trans ?

fuckboris · 26/08/2022 20:53

It makes perfect sense.

Nurseries and wrap around childcare are closing, government policies have left them at financial crisis point and the gas and electricity hikes will finish some of them off. Without childcare, how are people working? It's well documented that women pick up the majority of caring roles.

Not everyone has school-aged children, helpful grandparents or another parent to work opposite shifts with.
