Does anyone work a second job, around nights/continental shifts?

I have been browsing job ads for a while, with the intention of getting a second pt job, but I work continental night shifts so it’s very difficult to find a one that fits around this. I have seriously considered biting the bullet and applying for jobs that mean I would sometimes be working a day shift straight after a night shift (then back in the that night) but I don’t know how long I could do this for before falling asleep on the job😁

I care for an elderly relative, so the times where I’ve had to go from my shift, to hospital apts etc, then back in the same night have been difficult.

It’s frustrating as I have the free time to work more, it’s just not set days every week, which most other jobs are.I don’t know what happened to zero hours contracts, but I can’t see many of those around either recently which would probably be ideal.

I’ve considered applying for other FT jobs and leaving this one (either higher pay or one with shifts that would allow a 2nd job), but I honestly don’t think it’s a good idea to be changing my main job right now, which is relatively secure. The days off also help with caring responsibilities.

I’m picking up OT where I can, but there isn’t much available.

If you managed it, what sort of job was the second one? If you worked a few hours in the day after a night shift regularly, did you get used to just powering through in the end?

Please, please don't try and do a 12 hr night shift, a day shift on a second job followed by another night. You will break yourself mentally or physically.

Can you find remote piece work, that could be done at a time to suit you? Say transcribing, or policy checking where it needs doing in the next 3 days, rather than 9-5 tomorrow?

Believe me, it’s a last resort but I figured if I managed to get a non physical job it might doable.

What you suggest would be ideal, something on an ‘as and when’ basis, however ones I’ve come across (atleast those that look legit) tend to be aimed at someone with field specific experience. The more recent ones I’ve seen have been aimed at medical staff for example.
