Zopiclone - Normal dose?

GP gave me 7 x 3.75mg to take for insomnia secondary to traumatic stress - I’m already on max dose of mirtazapine which should be sedating but isn’t really .

The zopiclone at the half dose is doing sod all … I know mumsnet can’t say yes or no really but would I be safe to take a second? Unsurprisingly NHS24 won’t commit to an answer, said I’d need to talk to a GP but said there’s chance I might not get the answer for hours yet .

I’ve previously taken that combination and been absolutely fine fwiw .

I find zolpidem loads better than Zopiclone.

Tiny dose, 2.5. 7 mg Zopiclone doesn’t do much.

2.5mg?! I may as well eat a smartie and make a wish. 😂

Crazy how we’re all affected so differently!

It is, I need fairly whopping doses of most (but not all) benzodiazepines, z-drugs do nothing at any sane dose, but a half-dose of promethazine makes me sleep for twelve hours and turns me into a dead-legged zombie for a day and a half afterwards (unless I'm manic, in which case it goes in the "does nothing" pot).

Promethazine is a funny one for me. It doesn’t knock me out but I’ll sort of groggily doze off and periodically wake up but be able to roll back over. Unfortunately, I spend the next day feeling like I’m about to vomit…and it’s anti-nausea medication!

People here rave about doxylamine succinate but I could take it and go about my day. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I would need a very solid dose of a benzo to actually knock me out.

I took a Zopiclone to try to go to sleep in the day the other week it did absolutely nothing, I had to continue the day, and I was very annoyed as it was last one.

I too need ridiculous doses of z drugs and benzos so I’ve just about given up at this point. Promethazine keeps me groggy and asleep — like PP I can wake up & go back to sleep. Does give me a bit of a weird hangover, but that’s better than a lack of sleep because I become totally dysfunctional when underslept.

I’m being treated for cancer so my GP is being generous with the pills but I did not get around to asking for Zolpidem before the bank holiday so whoops it’s lavender hand cream and The Archers & anything I can find in my drawers I guess. I’m out of promethazine. I do have doxylamine succinate as also anti-nausea but results are mixed.

I do like “a smartie and a wish” Confused

I’ve always been given 7.5 mg the most I ever got was 28 tablets but that was by my psychiatrist my gp won’t even entertain the idea.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/08/2022 09:01

Yes, my pysch was more generous than gp.

mowly77 · 27/08/2022 09:32

GPs notoriously stingy, they mainly just don’t get the nuances or the need for sleep if you have a serious condition.

I now have to get my oncologist on board to prescribe, & then tell the GP to put on repeat prescription - it’s a faff!

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 27/08/2022 19:32

I don't think it's that they don't understand the nuances or the need for sleep, I think it's more that after a surprisingly short time of taking something like zopiclone each night, you can start to lose the ability to fall asleep without it altogether, and end up in the same situation you were in before but with the added inconvenience of being screwed without your tablets. They don't want to end up making you worse off. I've personally found that if I use benzos more than two nights running, getting to sleep is noticeably harder the first night without them.
