It’s a classic A&E thread!

My boyfriend has been knocked over by a voi scooter. It hit his shoulder hard and he’s landed on all fours. One knee is swollen and very painful - he can’t put weight on it.

Do we need to buckle up for a Very Long Wait?

Yes!

Sprig1 · 25/08/2022 20:43

Yes, get yourselves down there. Better than waiting until Friday/the weekend.

SunnyNunny · 25/08/2022 20:44

Yes.
But that reminds me: anyone know what happened to that thread of the woman posting her husband was having severe chest pain or something along those lines but refusing to get medical attention? Had a million pages, but wondering if there was ever an update and if he was ok?

Definitely pack snacks phone chargers books and clean pants you might get lucky and be in and out but you might not

Plus it gets very hot in hospital so baby wipes or a flannel for that 3am grimy feeling

NoHomers · 25/08/2022 20:46

I hope he's OK! Those scooters are a bloody nuisance, and a fatality waiting to happen (involving either the rider or a pedestrian).

plantseverywhere · 25/08/2022 20:50

Thank you - this is what I’m thinking. My dad who has medical training (we are now at his) has said that he thinks it might be sprained and not broken. But still! Thinking of getting the comfy clothes on and heading over there.

Yep...as @Isaidnoalready said get your phone chargers. I also recommend several bottles of water and some sandwiches and snacks. Cash/Debit Card for the vending machine for when you have eaten all your sandwiches and snacks.
Maybe a book to read. Something like Lord of the Rings (full trilogy) or War and Peace should keep you going.
Hope he's ok. Stupid scooters.

Lacdepassy · 25/08/2022 20:58

I probably wouldn't go. I would get him to take some pain relief and see how the next few hours go.

GreenLunchBox · 25/08/2022 20:59

Yes, buckle up for a long wait. Watch this while waiting. Hopefully the Tories will get this everywhere they go: twitter.com/ladyhaja/status/1562847387990667265?t=O6fzhXi2SIOQ1urintByng&s=19

My son had a nasty fall from him bike at the weekend, needed an x-ray and wounds cleaned and dressed. We phoned ahead to a&e and they gave us an appointment time to come in...not sure if they offer this in every area but it was much better to wait at home than in a&e.

I’ve worked in 15 A&E departments. The quietest time Mon-fri is 8am. On sat you are safe to leave it til 9 and 10 on Sunday. You also get fresh drs first thing in the morning.
