What do you think of theory that we go to a parallel universe when we die?

Seen this on TikTok. Something to do with quantum theory proving that our consciousness goes to a parellel universe when we die, and we continue life in that universe.

To me, this is worse than the idea of nothingness after death. What if you travel to a bad parallel universe? No thanks.

What do you think, is it plausible or is it woo?

According to this theory, does this only happen the once or are we hopping from universe to universe for eternity? Is this one universe 1 or further along on our death jumps?

I'd be pretty pissed off if this was my after life tbh.

Fat and broke. Great.

But seriously, anything is possible I guess but I highly doubt we're travelling through universes, living and dying over and over again.

I fucking hope not, anyway.

😆

Where would the consciousness currently living in the other parallel universe my consciousness goes to, go?

I think there is still only one consciousness, it's just existing in all the parallel universes simultaneously, but you as an individual are only experiencing one outcome.

All the possible parallel universes exist simultaneously, but in a state of superposition, with our consiousness navigating and 'collapsing' possibilities. So as an individual, you can't experience your own untimely death, as your consiousness will only experience the reality where you didn't die.

This is fascinating! I’ve always believed in this, that there is a ‘life’ being lived elsewhere based on all the decisions that the me posting this now didn’t make(bit confusing) As for after death i think reincarnation fits the best. So certain parts of who you are now, are brought back into existence and live on in someone else. I feel like this explains why you click with certain people instantly that you’ve never met before, or you go somewhere new for the first time but it feels familiar. I love these types of discussions…

But why do you click with some people according to this theory, I don't get it? 🤔

MrsHood · 25/08/2022 20:43

I think I used to think this. Then my dad died and when I saw his body, the fact that he was no longer there really threw me. Minutes after his death he no longer looked like him. It’s totally baffled me about the biological and psychological partnership that has to be in place for a body to work and a person to be a person. Still completely flummoxes me how the two (heart and brain I guess) are so independent yet so linked.

Not sure if I’m making any sense. But I find it mind boggling how we are alive one minute, full of character and personality and then we die and that bit shuts down and no longer exists, but the body is still there but is so blatantly just a vessel, a shell.

So having seen how my dad, him, the essence of who he was, had disappeared and vacated his body, I wish with all my heart that there was something somewhere where “he” has gone to. But I think it’s actually just nothingness. Like before we were born. Which frazzled my tiny mind too.

I do hope they have a lot of tin foil there - I think we're going to need it for hats.

PlanetNormal · 25/08/2022 20:48

If I were interested in learning more about quantum theory and its possible applications to speculative concepts of multiverses, I wouldn’t start with TikTok.

Yes! These are the questions we need. I'd love to see someone who believes this theory answer this Grin

Here we go, then...

What happens to the consciousness(es) of those you interact with in all the other universes when you switch? Assuming that your family/friends remain the same?

UnagiForLife · 25/08/2022 20:54

OP this theory sounds like the plot line of The Midnight Library by Matt Haig which is a great book! I don’t like the idea of it being true though!

ChloeKellyIsAnIcon · 25/08/2022 20:57

This is not how quantum physics works. HTH.

This is a brilliant explanation actually Shock

I bloody hope not! I just want to have a rest and not do the whole thing again.

XenoBitch · 25/08/2022 21:50

Ugh, no. I do not want to be me for all of eternity regardless of what universe/timeline/whatever sci-fi bullshit.

I want to just not exist anymore.

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 25/08/2022 21:50

If it's on TikTok it must be true!

Hawkins001 · 25/08/2022 21:51

I have know knowledge on that particular topic, however I would like to jump to different universes like they did in the show sliders,

YellowPlumbob · 25/08/2022 21:52

I fucking hope not. I want the mercy of sweet non existence, thanks.

wheresmymojo · 25/08/2022 21:56

halfmoonvibes · 25/08/2022 20:22

It's basically the multiverse theory.

So in essence, a parallel universe is invented for every possibility. So if you're deliberating on whether or not to have pizza for dinner, if you choose to have the pizza, there will be a parallel universe invented where you didn't choose the pizza. If you almost got hit by a car, there will be a parallel universe invented where you did get hit by the car and got injured. Etc.

So parallel universes are being made all the time alongside our current reality. And they follow our current realitys timeline.

And when we die, our consciousness gets taken randomly to one of these other universes.

I think thats how it works anyway?

Like where is the line drawn though?

Is there a parallel universe where I forgot to put the question mark on the sentence above?

And another five where I decided not to correct the typos as I was writing this post?

And another one where I scratched my head twice instead of three times?

I also don’t think death is as big a mystery as people think - or the nothingness of it. I see death as ‘not being alive’. And we’ve all been previously not alive. What comes after life is probably the same as what came before. We’ve all already experienced it, although it is somewhat of a ‘non experience.’

This is what I think but you've worded it better than I've ever managed to.

Crappydoo · 25/08/2022 21:58

I fucking hope not I'm looking forward to a rest

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 25/08/2022 22:04

There’s an infinite money cage podcast that talks about this theory (Brian Cox).

I do think that parallel universes are possible. Seems like time and space are not as simple as it appears to us in our everyday life.

I don’t understand why we would go to another parrell universe after death. Why couldn’t we just simply die in that universe?

aletterfromseneca · 25/08/2022 22:10

Quantum mechanics prove nothing of the sort. Quantum is often used as a smoke screen or adding legitimacy for any kind of woo beliefs because nobody without a degree in physics understands it

I mean this is true. I can’t imagine many normal people understand it. I mean most of the other theories I kind of manage a basic understanding of but quantum mechanics is fully beyond me. That whole Schrödinger’s cat thing is just….what…huh.

aletterfromseneca · 25/08/2022 22:27

My degree had a unit on quantum computing but even that swept 95% of quantum stuff under the rug

aletterfromseneca · 25/08/2022 22:28

I guess what I mean is it’s utterly dizzying and no wonder nobody gets it

girlmom21 · 25/08/2022 22:31

But surely if there's a parallel universe we can never cross into it, because it's parallel.
