Warm blankets/throws

I hope nobody minds me asking - do you have recommendations for reasonably priced very warm blankets or throws that people could wrap themselves up in on cold winter evenings? I was wondering about those big warm bag type things you can get in, but also thinking that they might be an accident waiting to happen for older people.

Not electric. Thank you.

Last winter we bought some lovely fleece blankets from a brand called Bedsure on Amazon. They're really soft and warm, I have one downstairs and one to put on the bed as an extra layer. Kids have them too.

I've got a heated throw from Lakeland. It is amazing! And I do t have the gas fire on, or switch the heating on early either. The cats will also come and sit in my knee. Which is a bonus!

I've found the best way is to create layers. You can get some fairly cheap fleece blankets from Primark or IKEA that are really cosy when layered and quick to wash and dry.

I wear a fleece dressing gown over my clothes or pjs and then have 2 fleece blankets to tuck over myself when I'm sitting down and another one underneath me. The one underneath is a thick sherpa fleece. People do forget to warm themselves from underneath but it makes all the difference.

Thanks very much everyone, some great ideas.
Just to mention - I'm not asking for ideas for electrically heated blankets, or on how to keep warm. 😀 I'm looking specifically for something that people could wrap themselves up in when sat indoors on cold evenings. I'm assuming they will hopefully already have layers on.

Does anyone use those kind of over-sized sleeping bag shaped things that have your legs and feet tucked in as well?

The teddy bear range at Dunelm is good. Very warm, washes well, dries quickly and a reasonable price. Goes on the sofa or bed.

Costco have lovely cosy throws & an oversized hoodie (Oodie type thing) at reasonable prices.

I have these. Love them. So snuggly.

We have three blankets on the sofa (one for each of us) and blankets on each bed. Great to wrap up in

Do you mean oodies/kuddlys?

Yes, they are fab. Plenty of cheap version, primark, dunelm, Amazon.

SatinHeart · 25/08/2022 21:10

I like the sherpa fleece ones, cozy but lightweight. We got a couple of cheap ones from Amazon and they were fab last winter for snuggling under on the sofa of an evening.

Trivester · 25/08/2022 21:11

Would you consider a weighted blanket? It’s lovely and soothing to curl up under with a good book and had that “tucked in” feeling.

A580Hojas · 25/08/2022 21:16

While I'm usually a fan of everything natural and organic, I do think for throws and blankets for keeping warm this winter that fleeces are the best option. Because they are light, wash easily on a warmer wash than wool and dry much quicker than wool.

RinskeD · 26/08/2022 09:21

Thanks very much everyone. Without going into too much detail - I'm looking for something reasonably priced and we'd be buying a quantity that would be distributed.
Oodies and the cheap copies aren't long enough, we're hoping that feet can be tucked in. The wearable blankets, like Slanket style, don't wrap around your back, but just your front. I looked up some of the fleece blankets and sherpas suggested and they look pretty good. Will go away and decide now. Thanks again. 😃

I like the ones that have a ‘sheepskin’ layer too. Lots to choose from in B&M.

IllDoItButOnlyForTheAttention · 26/08/2022 09:24

I have a couple of slankets and I used to wear them back to front, so they did cover the back and neck. They're huge so there's plenty of fabric to wrap the whole body.

Whatwouldnanado · 26/08/2022 23:17

Look on Brand Alley. I bought a new one for our sofa and three others as Christmas gifts last week reduced to 11.00 and 16.00 in the sale. They're great qualify. Will be back with a link...
