If you have a revision refuser. How well did they do with GCSE exams?

My DS refused to do any revision at home and didn't open the revision guides I bought for him.
He got 6s I Maths and English as well as some lower grades and 2 BTEC passes.

Just wanted to know how other revision refusers did.

Not this year but last. We still use the old grades so it was 2 Bs and 5 Cs. Resit in English this year was a B. No revision. We were happy with this. AS levels with zero revision resulted in 2 Cs and a D. It does frustrate me that with a bit of revision they could achieve more but I also find revision and exams difficult so I'm not cracking the whip. You can't really do that anyway as it doesn't work.

Not GCSE but as level. She got U’s

AmberGer · 25/08/2022 14:20

Mostly 4's, a couple of 5's and a 7.
No need for Math's or English re-sits.
Very surprised. Was expecting lower grades.

Mine got a 2 in history, his lowest mark. Even the staff at school said that history was hard this year.
He has autism and struggled with the concept of doing school work at home. We did send him in to school for revision workshops that they offered during the holidays.

Mine got 5s, 6s and a random 7. To say I was relieved would be an understatement. DC would swear blind that they revised but as I’ve been WFH I saw exactly how much (little) they did. Onwards and upwards, thank God to college do a non academic course with no exams.

warofthemonstertrucks · 25/08/2022 14:46

Mine got 1 9, 2 8's, 3 7's and the rest 6's. These are great results and I'm proud of her
Regardless, but she is devastated with them (she was predicted a few more 9's and 8's). She did no revision in the last few months-so I'm not sure what she expected.
She has been horrible since she got her results largely I think because she knows it's on no one but her-and yet to me she has done great so I don't really see the issue.
She has better than what she needs, and knows next time she will need to work if she wants what she could get. Could have done without her horrible attitude about it on what should be a happy day for us all. Hey ho.

My son got all 3,s. I'm really upset but trying to stay upbeat and positive but at the same time realistic for him.
I made him do all the extra study sessions at school but he would never do anything at home despite me getting study guides etc. I just don't know what is going to happen with college? Will they still accept him?!
His twin sister on the other hand got all 6 and 7 grades, but she really worked hard throughout the last 2 years, asking for old papers to practice etc. She put the work in and has clearly done well. It's so bittersweet.

DD got 5 As, 2 Bs, 2 C*s and a C in her GCSEs on no revision. They are good grades but just so frustrating as I know she’s capable of better if she actually put some effort in!

A levels are a whole different ball game though and she’s come to realise that you really can’t just coast along and come out with a half decent grade as you can at GCSE level.

Ragwort · 02/09/2022 14:25

He got enough to get into sixth form, where he got good enough grades to get his first choice Uni (actually dropped one grade from the offer but they still took him Grin - not a Russsl Group Uni obviously!)

clipclop5 · 02/09/2022 14:26

Should also say that we’re in Northern Ireland where grading is different, in England she would’ve had an 8, 4 7s, 2 6s, 2 5s and a 4

Depends on the child. At gcse , if you've got a good memory and a knack of knowing the way to answer the questions you can get top marks without revision.
Im about to find out this summer how my hates school, doesn't concentrate in lessons revision refuser will do.

Some of the teenagers I work with are reluctant learners and their outcomes vary widely. Some of them crash and burn and others get 7s, 8s and 9s. The latter often come a cropper at A level (not always though) as they have got the necessary study skills and work ethic for the increased demands of the course.

TickleMyPickle · 02/09/2022 16:12

My child has ADHD and takes medication for it at school but not at home, and he did no revision at all.
He’s also spent less than half the time he should’ve in the classroom for the last 4 years ( abusing his time out card, being sent out for being disruptive etc).
Unbelievably he passed them all, a mix of 4’s, 5’a and 6’s.
