Bloody wasps! Help please.

We have wasps constantly buzzing around our upstairs front windows trying to get in. I have stuck net up but if there is the tiniest gap they squeeze in, they are relentless. Once in they just buzz around on the inside of the window aimlessly. There doesn't appear to be a nest nearby, I have stood outside watching them, if they can't get in they eventually fly away, usually in different directions. We have had wasp's nests before and usually it's fairly obvious where they are, you see them coming and going at regular intervals. I think they look a bit thiner than regular wasps but dh doesn't agree. Anyone had similar before?

They are probably babies, just out on their own. Pretty clueless - but they can still sting!

we have some sprayers ( empty household surface cleaner ones are fine) filled with a very strong solution of washing up liquid and water. This drops them in their tracks , either kills them or stuns them so they can be picked up with a towel etc and thrown out. It doesn’t stink like fly killer.

I’m answering as I can see you’ve had no replies, but not sure I can help.

I have a similar situation. We have a willow arch in the garden that is swarming with wasps, but I just cannot see where their nest is. I used to have any wasps nests in my garden destroyed, then changed it to only wasps nests close to the house.

Now I try to live with them. We know all about the bees being important to the environment, and struggling to survive, but wasps do the same job as bees.

I have always found that they are attracted by lights, so perhaps make sure there are no lights/lamps on in that room. In the garden recently when we were being bothered by them I spread some jam on a plate and put it some distance away from us, it worked.

May I suggest you google wasps and read about their lifecycle, but don’t go on pesticide websites. Their life cycle is very interesting and the have an important environmental role. I don’t actually like them, but I am less scared of them than I used to be. It is absolutely true that if you remain calm and don’t wave your arms they will fly off.

Oh forget to say, I use a spider catcher to remove ones that get inside the house. I then let them go outside.

Thanks. There were 8 in dds room yesterday, the window was only open for a short time!

@Deadringer we have had a few nests due to our roof tiles / eaves making lovely homes for them. Sadly they choose for the last two years to make them by our baby's nursery. One year we had a council chap to come and treat the nest. During lockdown we had to sort it ourselves so we used this stuff (picture attached). Perhaps you could put some on your window ledge (if it's not too windy) and see if this will deter them. Good luck!

We had this problem last summer ( this summer there's strangely non vasps around at all) and I put a slice of watermelon in the garden and all of them stop flying inside and start eating the watermelon and calmed down , it last them for few weeks and then I just replaced it for a new one.
To me they were just hungry and were looking for a food.

Get yourself one of these!

It not only kills the fuckers - each time you get one, it gives a most satisfying cracking sound with a lovely flash of light.
