Which part of it is confusing?

for your last name, you need to have a statutory declaration signed by two witnesses. There are very simple templates online but basically has to simply has to say,

I <current full name> born on <DOB> of <your address> Will as of <this date> be known as <new full name> for all legal purposes.

witnessed by…
<full name>
<full address>
<signature>

then take it to your bank and ask them to change their records and issue you a new bank statement. If you can change something simple online first and use that as proof of use for the bank then great. But they can and will just take the SD even if they aren’t familiar with it as most people use marriage certificates.

then once you have that, change your passport ans and everything else.

no need to pay a solicitor or a fee to the ‘deed poll’ to “register it formally” there isn’t even an actual deed poll register.

Oh right ok it really is that easy i thought we had to send it off somewhere and was getting myself into a pickle. Is it the same for children?

Key difference is all those with parental responsibility for a child must agree to a name change.

Yes both myself and my husband (their father) are in agreement. I just wasn't sure if we needed to use a solicitor or could we do it ourselves?
