How much should I pay him?

As I'm moving house I have asked a family friend (who does some handyman work on the side) to help with the following

Assembly of double bed
Assembly of two single beds
Mounting TV to wall
Taking up some old carpet

I'm just wondering..how much do you think I should pay him? What's a reasonable amount for 3/4 hours work?

My neighbour charges £20
per hour for this which is ridiculously cheap. I
usually give him a bit extra for a few beers.
Whats the plan with the old carpet?

How is 25 an hour taking the piss ? my DP charges £10 an hour for handyman work although I’ve told him many times to charge more

£10 an hour. He needs to charge more!

75 quid an hour? I'm in the wrong profession 😂😂😂

Yes I would pay that. Worth their weight in gold getting someone in to do the smaller jobs that need doing

@TwoNightStand
it’s his full time job. He usually gets big projects that last weeks - months averaging about £12 an hour but outside of this he will take on work for £10 an hour and will travel 20 odd miles (we live rurally) which is ridiculous. A lot of the work he does is for old ladies on their own which is why he feels bad charging more.

He’s sounds lovely. 😊 But seriously, he’s being too nice. Some little old ladies are good at looking poor when it comes to paying for things. 😉

I use three 'handymen'. I pay £10 per hour, it's cash and I've no idea if it's declared for tax purposes
I live in SE

I would ask him. So much depends on where you are.

Absolutely ask him: 'how much will that be? '

Not so hard!

ginslinger · 24/08/2022 18:49

Ask him. Just ask him what his charges are.
Why do people not talk to each other?

Snazzysausage · 24/08/2022 19:01

Here in South Lincs I'd allow £25/£30 an hour for a handyman. I'm going on what the chap we use charges us.

HEPolicy · 24/08/2022 19:18

If people can pay £75 an hour for things they can do themselves (assuming able bodied of course) then they either have too much money or too little sense.
