Miserable, ill and wide awake - anyone else?

Lying here next to DS (4). Third consecutive night of him not sleeping, he has a chest infection and has been struggling to breathe so been sleeping with him in spare room. So, I've not been sleeping either.

Despite a very full day of work and sheer exhaustion, I'm wide awake and feeling wired. And starting with DS's cold, horribly sore throat and bunged up nose. Lying here worrying about the week ahead, so much work to get through, the new (and more demanding) job I'm starting soon, and generally anything else I can think of to worry about the list is always long

Nothing awful in the grand scheme if things but I'm beginning to feel a little loopy with it all! Anyone else awake and struggling??

Yeah. My sleep pattern is shocking these days. I'm a lot older than you though. My DC is getting up for work in the morning!

SpinCityBlues · 24/08/2022 01:17

Just to say I have some freelance pieces to complete this week.

ColourMeExhausted · 24/08/2022 01:23

Hello @SpinCityBlues thanks for replying! Always feel less alone knowing I'm not the only one. Sorry you're awake too. I'm in my 40s and sleep just doesn't happen easily, so I know it will get worse. Had hoped we'd be past the worst of the child induced insomnia but whilst DD7 now sleeps soundly, DS4 shows no sign of doing so.

Trying to plan tomorrow, got a meeting I can't really miss, so will get through the morning then sleep in the afternoon if I can. Probably won't manage it though. Luckily I can wfh as was planning to go into the office.

I want to go sleep bust DS17 isn't home yet and I just can't sleep without him being back.

SpinCityBlues · 24/08/2022 01:34

I learned the art of the 'cat nap' many years ago.

NoWeaponsOnTheTable · 24/08/2022 01:35

Middle of the night is rubbish. Everything is magnified and my brain feels like it's whirring.
I actually went to bed really early as I felt rotten yesterday but un-named perpetrators decided to be very loud, then 1 stole all the duvet just as I was getting comfortable.
So I've done some knitting read a book and now I'm going to try and get settled on the sofa..busy day tomorrow too 🙄.
We will all get through it!!

Bouledeneige · 24/08/2022 01:36

I'm also awake. Very much want to be asleep - I've been so tired lately and feeling a bit off. Just been thinking I don't really have enough friends..... night thoughts aren't the healthiest.

DD 22 just came in and is chatting to a pal on her phone in the kitchen. I can hear their voices but not what they are saying.

bloodywhitecat · 24/08/2022 01:47

Yup. Every time I nod off my brain snaps me back awake again. I manage one good night every couple of weeks these days. I hope DS is on the mend soon, reminds me of many a night with my DD when she was little.

ColourMeExhausted · 24/08/2022 01:48

@Lyi I hope he's back soon. I guess no matter what age they are, they will always find a way to keep you awake!

@NoWeaponsOnTheTable you're so right - everything is magnified at this time, it's horrible. I've now moved onto worrying about the rise in gang crime, and apparently black widow spiders are on the rise in the UK (need to really avoid the news).

@Bouledeneige sorry to hear you've lots on your mind too. Night thoughts definitely aren't healthy and not always rational. Things will be brighter for us all in the morning I hope, no matter how bleary eyed we are...

Above it all, I'm so so bored!! Might give up and read my Kindle. Pretty sure this is me for the night.

@bloodywhitecat how are you doing? I've read your posts on here, you've been through so much, I'm sorry to hear you're not sleeping. Thanks, DS will be fine, he was premature so he seems to be suspectible to chest issues, we've had a few hospital visits when he was younger which means I'm extra vigilant.

I've given up for the time being and I made myself a cup of red bush tea. Unfortunately it also meant scoffing a piece of cake and an apple. Great for my teeth? Im now watching an old Location, Location, Location on my laptop. I know the screen time isn't good for sleep but there you are....

bloodywhitecat · 24/08/2022 02:11

I am trying to get through all the 'firsts' without DH which is harder than I imagined. I am taking my fosterling away to the west country this week though so I am hoping that will give us a bit of a fresh outlook. Then, once we're back, we will most likely be doing introductions to their new adopters so that will be another goodbye.

ColourMeExhausted · 24/08/2022 02:24

Mmm cake, wish I had some! The current issue I have is I really need the loo...but DS is half awake and lying across me and I know that if I attempt to move, I'll get shouted at.

@bloodywhitecat you're amazing. My DS was fostered and I'm always so impressed by those who choose to foster - especiallyas it involves having to let go. I hope your trip away is special.
