What time do your kids go to bed? Getting back into school routine 🤔

Over the summer we have been quite flexible on bedtimes, but have lost track of what is the norm.

We have a 12 year old girl, 10 year old boy, 5 year old boy.

They all need to be getting up around 7am ish. Though the 12 year old normally sets her alarm for 0630 🥱

I remember my mum sending us to bed early for a week before school restarted to "get us used to it" and it was a pain. Everyone else still playing out and making the most of the sun!

We just wake them 7am on the very last day off so they are nice and tired for that night. They end up shattered the first few days of school but, frankly, that happens regardless!

Usually get in a good few early nights that first week back.

Their typical school night bed time is 7.30 for a story, then they each can read as long as they like. 7yo looks/reads one small book or looks at wheres wally etc and is always asleep within 30mins. The 10yo usually reads to herself or draws til about 8.30 and then settles down to sleep.

My 13 year old goes to bed by 11pm on school nights, last night she went to bed at about 3am. 🤷🏻‍♀️ There’s a couple of weeks holiday left so we’ll sort it out next week. They always end up nocturnal in the holidays.

Term time week days
DS age 13 aim for 9, usually ends up 9.30, goes to sleep straight away.
DS age 16 - 10.30.

Oh and mine have to be up by 7am on school days

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/08/2022 18:56

My 14 yr old goes to bed at 10pm and is usually asleep by 11pm
My 10 yr old goes to bed at 9pm and is usually asleep by 9.15pm

Both need to get up at 7.30am

We've been back at school for 2 weeks now.

I just got them up early the day before they went back to school. This ensured an early night before school and then they were straight back into their routines.

When school is on, my two (4 and 7) usually go to bed around 8pm and get up at 7am.

We're just back from 2 weeks holiday and they were up until 10.30 / 11.00 pm some nights.

Now we're home they've been going to bed around 9pm.

I think around 9pm, 8pm and 7pm for your kids.
Then adjust based on how tired they are in the mornings.

14 years old. Haven't changed for years, 11 pm to in bed(though don't fall asleep straight away), have to be up by 7 am on school terms, get up around 8 on holidays.

GG1986 · 23/08/2022 19:42

My 6 year old goes to sleep around 8:15 on a school night, up at 7:15. In the holidays she's been going to bed at 9ish and up at 8.

paulmccartneysbagel · 23/08/2022 19:49

The 12 year old goes up at 9pm and is usually asleep by 10

10 year old in bed 8:30 usually asleep by 9:15

6 year old in bed 7:30 usually asleep at 8

They all wake up at 6am Confused

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 23/08/2022 19:49

My 10 year old is in bed by 8.45, lights out at 9pm.

My 12 year old goes up to her room at 9, usually asleep about 10/10.30pm. She sets her alarm for 6am!

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 23/08/2022 19:49

DD started school before she was 4. She went to bed at 10:30 the night before her first day. It adjusted naturally to about 9pm within a week or 2.

She starts secondary school in a few weeks. Bedtime was 9:30-10pm and is currently 10:30-11pm. She will need to get up a bit earlier as it starts earlier than her primary school did so I anticipate her being in bed by 10pm (up at 7am). Some of her activities don’t finish till 8:30/9pm so by the time she’s had a snack/meal it’s already late.

Marinamountainzoo · 23/08/2022 19:53

Mine need to be up by 7.30am on a school day and usually I would have to come close to physically dragging them out of bed at that time cos they don't want to get up.

Everyday without fail in the summer holidays they are up at 7am.

At the moment it's lights out at 10pm. I do send them up to their room about 8.30pm for a bit of peace. In term time it's up at 7.30 and lights out at 9pm.

yousolucky · 23/08/2022 19:57

My 12yo and 9yo go upstairs without electronics (not their choice!) at 9:30pm and asleep around 11ish 😱 They are both nocturnal and I don't fight that, as remember how hard it was for me.
Will not wake them up the day before, as it is their 'last day of freedom'. Older DC have to wake up @6:45 for school and the younger at 8am. They somehow fall into routine quite easily when school starts.
