Good for her? Assuming his allegations were baseless, you'd be pretty upset or see it as a risk you take when watching such a "character"?

Wow. What does she hope to achieve other than 15 mins of fame? He's a dick but it's the lawyers who will make money from this, not her if that's what she's hoping.

HirplesWithHaggis · 23/08/2022 16:07

She must have plenty of spare cash. Such action won't be cheap.

Bladed · 23/08/2022 16:11

She says that she wants to clear her name and reputation yet she’s prolonging the whole thing and bringing it into the limelight again. Most people would have completely forgotten about this incident by now if she hadn’t taken this step.

Maybe she sees it as a way of teaching the man child a lesson, since the Tour can't be bothered to censure him properly.

TheBikiniExpert · 23/08/2022 16:14

How can she prove she wasn't drunk though?

GinIronic · 23/08/2022 16:14

Oh give over - has this person got nothing better to do with their lives? Just another attention seeker.

I don't know. I don't think people who know her will have forgotten. I don't know what she does but for example, if your child's teacher had been ejected from Wimbledon on live TV, would you have forgotten?

I'd forgotten it.

Nowhere in that release do I see an apology for heckling during play.

It's not up to her to prove she wasn't drunk - it's up to him to prove his allegations. Which will be tricky as he said she 'looked like' she'd had 700 drinks, not that she'd 'actually had' 700 drinks.

Certainly interesting from a legal point of view!

Beyondshit · 23/08/2022 16:22

Oh he also said 'she is drunk out of her mind' - so his team will have to prove that. Based on my limited understanding of defamation law!

I’d imagine a lot of people who know her only know about it because she’s told them.

And if someone I knew had been ejected from the Wimbledon final I would find it absurd that they were suing.

Anyone who knows tennis knows that Kyrgios is a loose cannon and behaves like a stroppy toddler - I’d see it as a complete waste of time and money to go after him. He is often fined for his behaviour and doesn’t give a toss, so how meaningful will an apology from him be anyway? The fine won’t hurt him, and any apology will be insincere.

Just seems like a lot of effort to go to. But hey - it’s her money, time and reputation 🤷‍♀️

But you presumably don't know her?

I think she's arguing it wasn't her. He said he didn't know who it was but assumed it was the one who looked drunk

Is she a lawyer? Or have I imagined that? And hasn't she said she'd donate the money to charity.

She has also asked him to settle before it gets to court.

Lots to unpick here!

Gilead · 23/08/2022 16:26

Hang on, wtf gives him the right to make very public, unsubstantiated accusations.
She’s absolutely right.

Pixiedust1234 · 23/08/2022 16:33

What an idiot. Thinks she can try and distract a top athlete during an international tournament with lots of sponsorship money floating around , and now her feelings are hurt because everyone said no?

Surely she would have to sue the organisers too since they could have refused his request?

But she says she didn't? He said he didn't know exactly who it was even at the time.

From the article you linked:

During the match Kyrgios said: "She is distracting me when I am serving in a Wimbledon final... she is drunk out of her mind in the first row speaking to me in the middle of the game, so kick her out... I know which one she is, its the one who looks like she has had about 700 drinks... she is talking to me in the middle of the point every time I get the ball."

OfficiallyBroken · 23/08/2022 16:55

I'm not a fan of Kyrgios...however he was reacting to a fan who was not being controlled by the stewards. He made a complaint based on the information available to him at that time and based on his perception of the behaviour of who he thought was the cause of the disruption.

He didn't state any facts, he said "looks like". That's his perception when he was trying to concentrate on the game so naturally his complete focus wasn't on the person he perceived as causing a problem.

Given that he can easily afford either an excellent legal team who will tear this to shreds or a substantial fine it'd be interesting to see what his response will be given his personality and own personal battles which he hasn't been shy about admitting to.

He may just double down, confirm that was his perception at the time and make a huge donation to a charity that supports alcoholics whilst fighting litigation just to make a point. He may roll over and apologise unlikely and settle with the woman who is determined to get attention whilst asking for proof of the donation to charity.

Either way it'll be interesting to see what happens next. Why you'd poke a stick at a knowingly volatile wealthy person I can't imagine unless she can prove defamation and it has adversely affected her earning potential and wellbeing.

Surtsey · 23/08/2022 16:57

I agree.

She said at the time she was "encouraging" him.

I'm not a fan of him, but the stewards should have been all over that before it got to that point. Someone was shouting while play was in progress.

It's all a bit stupid and pointless from her point of view.
