Well done!! This is amazing to hear.
I found out I'm prediabetic at the start of the month. For me it's definitely weight related and has given me the kick up the bum I needed.
I have another BT in Nov to check levels and hoping to have dropped back to the healthy range.

Well done, OP. A friend of mine did the same a few years ago. He's still thrilled about it.

Well done however I am amazed how many on this thread are asking how it was done. Do people not know what causes type 2 diabetes? It's been welll known for a while that reducing weight and cutting carbs reverses it. I do wonder if the problem is that people don't want to hear this because it confirms that their weight and diet are responsible.

It is not quite as straightforward as all that.

There is a difference between a diet specifically to manage and control diabetes / pre-diabetes, and a calorie-controlled diet to reduce weight.

I have been part of a pre-diabetes programme via my gp practice for a while now, and on the first session we had, the person running the course said that although some people do lose weight on the programme, some don't. The diet is about sorting out blood sugars and insulin resistance, and some foods recommended in normal diet plans are not suitable.

Although the NHS has been very slow to adopt low carb high fat to reverse diabetes,

www.diabetes.co.uk

Started recommending the low carb high fat approach ten years ago, an evidence based approach. Standard, straight down the line high fat low carb. Simples.

May some individuals will have different reactions but generally, it's all pretty simple.

I have done this too, about a couple of years ago, reversing my pre-diabetes. I am not that overweight, 5"7 and a size 12. But diabetes runs in the family.

I did it with a total lifestyle overhaul, and by reducing carbs as much as I could. Also no sugar or alcohol.

Well done! I reversed mine for a while through reducing carbs. Am not overweight and in fact when I did lose quite a bit of weight a few years ago following an op it set me off on a path of my HBA1C increasing. I continue to eat low carb but I take one Metformin daily.

I’m 2 weeks in to an nhs pre- diabetes group , really struggling though as I have ibd and the eating plan I’m supposed to follow for that is completely at odds with the diabetes advice. I nearly cried when they told me my safe food bananas had to go. I’m also fairly sure that my ibd plan has caused my high blood sugar. At the moment I’m left with eggs and fish . I was surprised that starches make such a difference , it’s really not as simple as lose weight and cut carbs which a pp suggested .

well done op Im really happy for you!

I didn't follow the NHS plan as I was diagnosed early in the pandemic and face to face groups were cancelled. The booklet i was told to print out still hasnt been read as i had so much going on at the time. My IBS was bad at the time too.

What are the things your IBD plan is suggesting other than bananas, and what is your pre-diabetes plan suggesting?
