Old dog wee soaked through to concrete

I have recently swapped my council home with an elderly woman, I am staying with my mum until me and DD move in on Friday, I am also having carpets fitted on Friday.

I pulled up her old carpet last night and it's clear her dog has had certain spots where he has wee'd and perhaps it hasn't been cleaned up quick enough. The smell is vile, strangely it didn't smell until the carpet was pulled up.

Under the carpet is treated concrete and I think the wee must have soaked through to that, does anyone know the best way to clean this and get rid of the smell?

I'd go with white vinegar and bicarb and if that didn't work get a good enzyme cleaner. It'll all depend on how often the dog used the area I suppose but that's a good place to start

Thank you @MogHog. Very silly question but by enzyme cleaner do you mean products that are called 'pet urine remover'?

Yes they will generally fall under that. We used to use the simple solutions one from amazon. I'd probably go with a outdoor one for patios if you are cleaning concrete too

You can use a solution of bio washing powder or liquid. Try it asap and let it dry. If it still smells, repeat.

@WeAreTheHeroes so just bio powder/liquid and hot water and scrub? It's worth a go I have those things in! Thank you

Just to warn, if you ever have dogs visiting your home keep an eye on them as even the most well trained pet might "cover' that area with their own wee if it is still detectable and they can smell a lot better than us, so even if it smells fine to us they might pick it up.

Warm rather than hot water or you risk killing the enzymes you need to work on the wee.

Try all the above and if it fails then make a paste with vim and rub it into the concrete and leave until dry, then sweep it up. This worked for me with cat pee.
Once you’re happy with it, seal it with a paint on concrete sealer.
