Has anyone else seen this? www.strutsafe.org

You can call whilst walking late at night and they’ll stay on the line with you until you’re home, and call the police if necessary.

In response to Sarah Everard’s murder. It wouldn’t have helped Sarah sadly, because she had no idea she was in danger at first, after being tricked by that evil bastard. But it looks like a brilliant initiative.

Ah thanks @GorgeousLadyofWrestling It seemed like such a good idea, I thought I'd give it a go.

I think it's a really great idea but I just wonder whether, if you're talking to someone on the phone, then you're not paying enough attention to where you are and what's going on.

The idea is that someone can call the police if something goes wrong, not to have a distracting chat I think

I agree (plus get your phone nicked)

So would you have some sort of thing set up so that you could track the person? I'm not sure how you can call the police unless you know exactly where they are. I am all in favour of this by the way, just wondering how it would work.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 23/08/2022 08:36

We have a poster on the thread who is volunteering for it and going through training, so I am sure they will go into all the details. But I would have thought you’d be telling them your location as you’re walking - it’s not difficult to say I am on X road, passing Y roads, coming up to Z junction. If something were to happen, the person on the line would be able to give very precise information about your last location within a short time period.

In Sarah Everard’s case, she would have been able to say that she’d been stopped by the police and her doing that and him seeing/ hearing that might have put him off what he was about to do.

Short of a male evening curfew or escorts home, this is as probably as safe as it gets for women - knowing somebody knows exactly where they are as they’re travelling home and has the expertise and training to act swiftly in the event of something happening.
