How much spending money would you take? (First holiday abroad )

It's my first holiday abroad and we are going to Gran Canaria for 5 nights all inclusive.
How much spending money would you take ?
I was thinking 600 euro
Would that be enough?
We plan on doing a dolphin boat tour 40 euro each and then just go with the flow
Maybe 1 night out at the sea front and 1 day in Puerto Rico

I would have thought that will be fine for all inclusive but it depends how much time you want to spend out and about and how much you will stay around the hotel. For the bits you've mentioned though £600 should be plenty. Are your transfers paid for? You will probably have a tourist tax to pay at hotel but I think it's under €10 a day anyway.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/08/2022 19:45

Actually you mention 'we'! How many is the 600 covering?

pinkkybluee · 22/08/2022 19:47

It's me and my partner and we plan on taking 600 euro each
All transfers are paid for

That will be plenty for all inclusive, surely? Last holiday abroad dh and I went on we took very little actual cash and used cashpoints and our debut cards. The charges were so low it was absolutely worth it to avoid having loads of money that we 'needed' to spend.

glamourousindierockandroll · 22/08/2022 19:51

I think that's a lot more than I would need to spend on an All Inclusive but if you've budgeted for it you may as well take it.

Personally, if i'd paid for a week All Inclusive i'd be in the resort most of the time and avoiding spending on food and drink elsewhere. I might have dinner and drinks elsewhere once. The activities sound lovely.

About £25 in local currency or euros (sometimes preferred, depends on the country).

We have Halifax credit cards, which give good rates on foreign withdrawals. Haven't taken more than pocket change to a country since about 2012.

Teadrinkingmumofone · 22/08/2022 19:56

Why take any? Take enough for your transfer maybe then use your card and cash machines if needed

Kendodd · 22/08/2022 19:59

I'd just take a credit card.

pinkkybluee · 22/08/2022 20:02

Yeah we plan on only eating out 1 night and 1 day the rest just in the hotel
We just want to make sure we have enough just incase

We wouldn't spend 600 euro in 5 days in the Canaries for food, drink and an activity/excursion or two between us if we were self catering, let alone AI. 1200 between you on top of AI is loads.

We just send the money to our Starling accounts and use those to pay for stuff. Plus any leftover cash from a previous trip, but that's only ever a few euros.

Wheretheskyisblue · 22/08/2022 20:06

Does all inclusive cover everything? Some resorts charge extra for premium drinks or certain menu items. Having said that your budget seems to have plenty for contingency.

user73783 · 22/08/2022 20:07

We don't take cash any more, especially if all inclusive. If you get a Chase card you can withdraw cash without any fees if desperate (apart from if the machine has one)

abovedecknotbelow · 22/08/2022 20:10

I don't take any money anymore, just use my Monzo

pinkkybluee · 22/08/2022 20:16

I don't have a credit card just my Halifax current account
What is the best card to use ?
Can I use my debit card abroad ?
