Mosquito repellant in Spain- is it necessary or don't you bother?

Going to Spain next week, south coast near to Portuguese border and wondering if other people use mosquito repellant or not. We went to the Algarve a few years ago I applied it (jungle formula) every evening on lower legs and arms, dh didn't bother, neither of us were bitten. Do other people use it when on holiday in Med or algarve or not bother?

Yes they do - buy what the locals use either from a supermarket or pharmacy is my advice.

There are less mosquitoes as the summer goes on, but I always use those plug in mosquito repellent things (we stay in a villa with screens at the windows but the doors are always open), and spray on our legs when sitting out at night, plus burn a coil. Some people aren't as tasty as others!

We own a property in the area I think you are going to visit and the mozzies can be awful.
They sometimes spray but missed one year and we ended up with huge stripey ones that were really bad so yes, I would most certainly recommend it and I am not usually a target

We were eaten alive without it. Lovely area, you'll have a great time.

I'm in Spain now. Absolutely you need it. We are here for 3 weeks, they left me alone the first few days then decided my legs were the best meal ever. I've learnt my lesson and applying everywhere and everytime I leave the pool. We have a week left, am hoping no more bites!

Definitely use it if you’re out and about from about 4pm onwards.

If no rain for weeks you might be okay, but we’ve found that the very brief showers (often overnight) hatch out everything, and for about two days you get bitten to death. The tiger mozzies are evil!

You can buy ‘zapper’ lights for use indoors. €15 to €20 is not bad to get a good night’s rest.

Take anti-histamine tablets with you. (one a day type) They’re going ‘prescription only’ fairly soon in Spain.
