sea swimming

has anyone else been swimming in the sea?
a sea filled with human poo?

quite revolting.
is it safe yet
and how would they know it is safe.
apparently the sewage companies cannot get the necessary chemicals to treat the sewage, due to brexit, and therefore come stormy weather/rain, it overflows, into the sea.

The thought of it is revolting isn't it? I would not swim in the sea these days.

The ocean is full of plastic, chemicals and shit. Although tbf it's also full of whale shit, dolphin shit, fish shit, octop...

Of all the things people dump in the ocean, our shit probably does the least damage.

This is an interactive map showing where the sewage is..

I swam in the sea twice last week. Not in an area near known sewage outflow - the nice clean beaches of the Galloway coast. I still try not to swallow any water or get it in my eyes, though - that seems a fairly sensible safety measure. No nasty side effects or problems for me or my family 🤷🏻 I'd be keeping an eye on the Surfers Against Sewage website if I wanted to swim again, though.

Not me… but a handful of members of my family started swimming in the sea when the pandemic hit and the pools closed. And still go most days now. So almost two years of 4/5 times a week and they’ve not had any problems yet. Luckily that map doesn’t show any reds anywhere near us!

Considering there are millions of animals in the sea that defecate every day, it doesn’t bother me. I wouldn’t swim where there was an open sewage pipe but on a normal beach, sure.

I do, pretty much weekly. We know which beaches/estuaries to avoid after heavy rain, which areas are likely to have blue-green algae in hot weather etc. I don't tend to put my head underwater. I check the SAS map posted above; it doesn't cover all our local beaches but it gives you an idea of where should be safe.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/08/2022 11:24

yes i also dont put my head underwater
i will advise dh also doesnt

I am hoping our local waters are filled with shit..
Keeping the sea swimmers out is a fantasy of mine...
Urgh just looked and our beach is safe..

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/08/2022 11:27
