Overnight stay in London

Hoping to stay overnight in London arriving early evening next Saturday. Lone mum and teen daughter. Would quite like somewhere central where it’s fairly safe to wander about. Any suggestions of nice areas please?
We’re from a city and have had recent experience of using the tube but never London buses.
Thanks

London buses are easy. No cash accepted, you can use your contactless card to pay your fare, and do the sane for your daughter or get an oyster card and add cash.

Remember to tap in and out on tube but only once on the bus. Two for tube, once for bus.

Anywhere central would be fine - where are you coming in from and what kind of stuff do you want to do?

Anything in zone 1 is safe, as a general rule of thumb. Bloomsbury is lovely and has everything from very smart hotels to mid-range chains to student accommodation, depending on your budget.

Buses are very easy - there are clear local bus maps on almost every stop, with a table below showing the stops that each service uses (look for the red circle on top of the bus-stop post to see which stop you're at). Tap onto the bus or tap on and off the tube with a bank card and it'll charge the lowest possible fare.

Bloomsbury always works for me and DD. Easy reach of Soho/Covent Garden, walking distance to lots more places.

I always stay at a family owned B&B in Paddington. Fab transport connections and loads of restaurants. Maybe look in that area.

we’re down south for a sports event in the daytime train coming back to London will via Marylebone station. As teen is playing the sport she might be a bit tired and we’ll have kit with us.
We like cat cafes and museums. Would like to go to the Natural History Museum. Budget fairly modest, but London modest might be something big like £200-£250.
