When would you drive after this much alcohol?

Started 2.30pm (all day wedding) finished 7pm. Two full bottles of prosecco... 16 units in total. Would you drive the next day after a certain time or leave it altogether?

I'd skip a day and drive the day after that.

Halstead · 21/08/2022 14:29

I would drive the following afternoon.

rwalker · 21/08/2022 14:34

Leave it altogether

there’s too many variables to guess
what u eaten, how active, how much u weigh ,how fast u process alcohol
the only way u would safely know would be a breathalyser
don’t take the chance

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 21/08/2022 14:36

If I didn't need to go anywhere then I just wouldn't bother but if I did need to go somewhere then I'd leave it until after 4pm.

MyBrilliantFriend · 21/08/2022 14:37

Based on the very rough calculation of a unit an hour I’d drive the following afternoon (provided I felt well etc).

PowerPack · 21/08/2022 14:38

Over the limit or not, I'd feel dreadful, so I wouldn't drive at all next day. Tiredness is the worst part of a hangover for me, I wouldn't be fit to drive, even if I could pass a breathalyser

MoodyTwo · 21/08/2022 14:39

I would take on the basis of 1 unit per hour ... so drive the following afternoon if you have too... however I probably wouldn't be able to get out of bed after 1 bottle let alone 2 x

Figgygal · 21/08/2022 14:40

Yes id drive the next day
Would prefer to have had some decent sleep and food beforehand and for it to be mid morning but yes i would

bilky · 21/08/2022 14:40

If I'd finished drinking at 7pm I'd confidently drive the next morning 🤷🏼‍♀️

ThatPirateLady · 21/08/2022 14:40

I think it’s an hour per unit to process. So 7pm finish plus 16 hours is 11am. I’d probably say if you give it another couple of hours that puts you after lunch so you’ll also have had two meals to help get your blood sugar right.

PowerPack · 21/08/2022 14:41

Also two whole bottles in 4.5 hours?! I like a drink. I could drink that much if I carried on into the evening but blimey. I would literally be legless if I drink it that quickly.

Triffid1 · 21/08/2022 14:44

Assuming I'd had a good sleep and something to eat, I'd drive the next morning. It wouldn't even occur to me not to under those conditions. Possibly if I'd been drinking until late at night...

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 21/08/2022 14:45

I wouldn’t even be able to function the next day so driving wouldn’t be an option

EquallyDivided · 21/08/2022 14:52

Probably not at all the next day, I’d be too hungover to trust myself.

ShesNotTheMessiah · 21/08/2022 14:53

24 hours after my last drink.

everylittlehelp5 · 21/08/2022 14:57

There is a website called the morning after that calculates how long it needs to be before you can drive.

CornishGem1975 · 21/08/2022 14:58

If I'd finished drinking by 7pm then I'd drive the next morning.

There's no scientific answer, because it depends on many different factors, you're also processing some of the alcohol while you're drinking - although I think that depends on how quickly you are consuming it.

CornishGem1975 · 21/08/2022 14:59

I think it’s an hour per unit to process. So 7pm finish plus 16 hours is 11am. I’d probably say if you give it another couple of hours that puts you after lunch so you’ll also have had two meals to help get your blood sugar right.

@ThatPirateLady but you're also processing some of that alcohol from 2.30pm onwards.

ShelfyMcShelfface · 21/08/2022 15:01

In theory, you can drive after 11am. 1 hour per unit from when you stopped drinking. Personally, I'd leave it until about 2pm, just to be on the safe side.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 21/08/2022 15:01

I’m not sure of the official answer but if I’m honest I’d probably be happy to drive from around midday the day after (provided I felt ok).

CornishGem1975 · 21/08/2022 15:03

Looked at this calculator - a bottle of prosecco is 6 glasses so, 12 glasses...would be 19 hours before driving.

Overthebow · 21/08/2022 15:04

Lunchtime the next day providing you’ve had a decent breakfast

CarlCarlson · 21/08/2022 15:05

just 2 bottles and finished by 7pm?

you’ll be ok to drive as soon as you woke up the next day surely?

sellthesizzle · 21/08/2022 15:06

The alcohol starts being dealt with as soon as you drink it so 16 units would be gone by 9am even giving a few additional hours. So yes I'd drive - but I'd make my decision mostly based on how I felt.

edwinbear · 21/08/2022 15:07

I'd drive the next day after lunch if I had to, but only if it was a relatively short trip. I'd be feeling awful so wouldn't embark on a long 3-4 hr drive.
