Water making me feel sick

I’ve always drank water with diluting juice. But a recent trip to the dentist shows it’s Effects on my teeth.

With that in mind, I’ve been trying to just drink plain water. but plain water makes me
feel sick. Really nauseous, and it sits heavy in my stomach.

it happens with any water. Bottled, filtered, tap.

does anyone else get this? And can anyone suggest ways to make water not so vomit inducing?!

This is me, ive drunk water on its own once i end up gagging, i was on a walk in the heat without any drink. I cant drink it without squash. Im trying to put less squash in than i have but i cant not have any in. The thought, the taste just makes me feel sick.

Whataretheodds · 21/08/2022 11:52

Can you manage it if you put fresh mint in it? Or cucumber slices (if your dentist approves?)

How about herbal tea?

FayeGovan · 21/08/2022 11:54

Have you tried those flavoured waters with no sugars added? Or just try a good mineral water like Evian. Also I find warm water (from a boiled kettle) sits easier in my stomach.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/08/2022 11:55

What about if you sip iced water?

SashaMannDeservedBetter · 21/08/2022 11:56

Same here. I remember getting shouted at as a child as I didn’t like it with no flavor, would get so dehydrated at school as I wasn’t allowed juice there. Sorry no helpful tips maybe just very slight amount of juice?

SecretMoomin · 21/08/2022 11:58

What about sparkling water?
I can’t drink still water at all but sparkling is fine.

NumptiesIncorporated · 21/08/2022 12:19

What about those sugar free drops - Robinson do ones that are in supermarkets, but there are other brands.

MugginsOverEre · 21/08/2022 12:27

I'm the same but someone will be along soon to tell you how pathetic and childish you are and that water doesn't have a taste. Hmm
(I guess that if you hand a blind person a glass of water they wouldn't know what the hell they're drinking?)

I would say putting fruit pieces in probably wouldn't help the teeth situation but there are a lot of sugar free juices out there. I'm surprised you're not using sugar free cordials anyway already.

SecretVictoria · 21/08/2022 12:29

I used to be the same. I can’t drink sugar free cordials either as sweeteners give me migraines. I can’t believe people recommend them. Anyway, lots of brands do ‘cold infusion’ tea bags. Could try those, or as pp said, sparkling water.

blankittyblank · 21/08/2022 12:30

Most squash these days is sweetener only. Can you drink squash instead?

BuildersTeaMaker · 21/08/2022 12:37

Ice! Or put water in the fridge to be very chilled
I moved to a new area about 12 months ago and it’s taking me a long time to get used to the change in flavour- it’s not as nice as my old water (imho though if you’ve always lived here you’d probably disagree as it’s what you’re used to),. Water can taste very different from one area to another based on how “hard” it is and whether it’s from water run off collected in reservoirs or pumped “ground water”. When I chill it right down it becomes just a cold liquid - the flavour is masked. Try that for starters

Then also try , if you have to, different types of bottled water. They taste quite different depending on type- again dependant on where it’s sourced from. You may find one that you can actually drink…but it’s an expensive habit.

Do you drink tea or coffee? You don't have to drink plain water to be drinking water, iyswim.

I was going to suggest making up cold tea with herbal or fruit tea bags.

I do this sometimes in the summer, served with ice, as it makes a nice change.

BakedTattie · 21/08/2022 14:19

Going to try all these suggestions, thanks!
