Dear gods, that was the worst smell I’ve ever smelt.

Got some chalk paint. Shook it. Dd opened it, the lid popped off and the room was filled with the scent of death. Well, death if it rolled in slurry. (Apparently it can go off-what an understatement!)
Anything else you can think of that’s unexpectedly stinky?

Ddog found one of the yellow sacks used by care homes to dispose of incontinence pads. It was just dumped in the field. Foxes had ripped it open. Ddog rolled in it. The smell was indescribable.

We once had a terrible smell in the kitchen - turned out to be a dead rat behind the freezer (thanks to our cat)

My dbro decided to save a civet cat being attacked by our dogs, but it sprayed Musk all over him, and no amount of showering got rid of the stench

Dead hedgehog that drowned in our pond. DP only realised when it had risen to the top, fished it out and put it straight into the (outside) bin. Was a week and a half until it got emptied in the heatwave.
It's killed the pond which now pretty much smells just as bad
Close to the time the puppy threw up cat shit in my hands. I could see he was going to be sick and was on my bed. It took a long time for that smell to go....

We washed a large deep pile rug, hoping to freshen it up. Used the vax carpet washer, hauled it outside and left it over the patio table in the blazing sun last week to dry. Felt v smug that we had now cleaned it and it would smell all fresh and lovely.

Oh no, it now smelled worse! A mixture of fusty wet fibres and dog and just general yuck. Made me heave. Despite our best carpet shampooing efforts, it went on a one way trip to the top, with the windows open ALL the way there.

The weird thing was it wasn't actually smelly before, just needed a clean. I think we somehow activated all the yuck, then it took too long to dry/not enough air through the fibres/too hot weather (?) and turned into a mingfest.

Rotting meat. We had Sunday dinner leftover meat that we binned before going on holiday. Forgot to empty the bin before holiday. The smell was horrific (as well as the flies and the maggots ). Took days to get the smell out.

Dead kangaroo. We drove past it with friends we were visiting in Australia.

We couldn't see it as it was somewhere in a forest we were driving past, but I remember just suddenly smelling something like very strong Stilton cheese in the air and our friends exclaiming "Dead kangaroo!!" 🤢

My episiotomy got infected & I became quite unwell, the smell was putrifaction galore. The old school GP did house calls and he came flying through the door I'd left open for him & shouted in his Afrikaans accent 'Stop stop, no need to tell me, I know what it is, it reeks and I can smell you from here, you've got an infection that stinks like rotten meat'. Handed me an antibiotic script, had a cup of tea and breezed out.

Nowhere near as bad as some of these but my husband once did a fart that smelled so awful it woke me up. Not the noise- the smell. He’s still really proud 🤣
