My dishwasher was dirty inside so I’ve given it a clean. But now I’m stuck, is this water meant to be in there? I think it smells. How do I get rid of it?

The water is mean to be there and empties at the start of the next cycle. Left is for salt. No need to mess with that (or it’s water).

after cleaning the filter your best bet is to run it empty, on its longest hottest cycle. Add a load of white vinniger if you have it.

greenacrylicpaint · 19/08/2022 20:46

that's the filter.
it's empty between cycles in our one unless blocked.
get out the manual on how to clean out the filter.

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2022 20:53

I’d say the filter is blocked.

The water is normal, it drains out at the next wash.
Have you cleaned under the black rubber seal around the door? I get a wet cloth and run it under them it’s amazing the amount of gunge that comes out. Clean the debris filters, scrub them with an old tooth brush.

Blanketpolicy · 19/08/2022 20:57

If should all drain away. Remove the water with a sponge. Then there is usually a drain pump cover that is removable. Remove that then have a good feel about to see if anything is blocking the pump. We had similar recently and there was a can pull ring stuck in there.

SavingsThreads · 19/08/2022 21:00

It should not drain away! It's supposed to be there.

Op what dishwasher do you have and what does your manual say?

dementedpixie · 19/08/2022 21:07

I just checked mine and there is a tiny bit of water in it not full like yours. Use a sponge to remove the excess water and remove the impeller cover and check for an obstruction as I think your filter is blocked.

lighterthenordinarychocolate · 19/08/2022 21:51

You can buy a dishwasher cleaner from the supermarket- just put it in the tray and run a cycle

dementedpixie · 19/08/2022 21:55

If its a physical blockage e.g. bit of clingfilm or a bit of plastic or glass then a dishwasher cleaner will not help

goingback · 19/08/2022 22:25

looks like my Bosch , there is always some water not usually as much as that, it keeps the water from the final rinse to use on the next wash to say it uses less water than other dishwashers. Have you checked the drain hose level to make sure you have got the drain working correctly?

vipersnest1 · 19/08/2022 22:29

Water should be there, but shouldn't look murky.
I'd stick a dishcloth in there to soak it all up, give all of the filters a scrub, top up rinse aid and salt and then stick on an empty hot wash - all the better if you have a dishwasher cleaner you can use.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/08/2022 22:31

Have you ever cleaned the filter?

dementedpixie · 19/08/2022 22:35

The water should not be there.
Remove the water. My bosch has a white impeller cover that can be removed to see if there's anything stopping it from turning.

Longdistance · 19/08/2022 22:36

Have you cleaned the blades too? Also, have you used salt recently?
The only place I see water is where the salt is meant to be deposited.

dementedpixie · 19/08/2022 22:39

I agree that water comes out the salt compartment when you refill it. There shouldn't be that amount of water in the filter compartment

Hugasauras · 19/08/2022 22:42

Yes our Bosch always has some which apparently is normal, NAY DESIRABLE!
Grin

Should there be water at the bottom of my dishwasher?
If the amount of water left in your dishwasher after a cycle is no more than two cups, then this is normal. Usually the appliance remains wet after a cycle due to the condensation drying principle which causes water droplets in the tub – they are indeed desirable here. The moisture in the air condenses on the inside walls, runs off and is pumped out.

Hugasauras · 19/08/2022 22:43

(That's from Bosch website)

Thanks everyone. I followed a YouTube tutorial and soaked up the stinky water and cleaned out the impeller, cleaned everything individually and topped up the very low salt. It’s now on a hot wash so hopefully that will do the trick. Next up tomorrow = washing machine filter!

And if you can stand the excitment, on Sunday you can finish your week washing the vacuum filter 🤣

Fantina · 20/08/2022 09:41

I’ll have to save some excitement for Christmas, @WeAllHaveWings

I’ve had three dishwashers and everyone had this amount of water left at the end of each wash, All three were different makes, Indesit, Hoover and Hotpoint, my daughter has an Electrolux and hers is the same. My friend is on her second Bosch, the same.
It gets pumped out at the very start of the next wash, it doesn’t mix with the clean water as it it pumped out before the machine fills with clean water.
I hear it drain out and then hear the sound of the clean water running into the machine.

Sagaris · 22/08/2022 07:46

Make sure you clean inside the door - open the door so it's flat, where the door meets the machine you will find a seal - mine was filthy and took a lot of wiping to get clean! I wipe it every week now and clean the machine every month. And mine has the water left in the bottom too.....

Blanketpolicy · 22/08/2022 07:53

This is my 6 year old dishwasher after a cycle. there is about 1" of completely clear water left at the bottom.

If the water is dirty that would be the last water your dishes were rinsed with 🤮 I would say something isnt right.

The white bit you see in the photo unclips to clear out the pump.

The water is to stop the seals drying out.

The water is to stop the seals drying out.

yes, a little water is usual.

but only half an inch of clean water at the bottom, not up to the brim and cetrainly not mucky.

but do check the manual of your machine to see what should be normal for your dishwasher.
