Finnish PM relaxing maybe after a few too many but is it the behaviour of a global leader?

Seems a lot more innocent than boris's parties and wasn't breaking any rules so don't think we are in any position to judge!

There doesn't seem to be any actual evidence of her doing anything other than having a drink and a dance in private company - if the expectation is everyone in government office or positions of authority must be entirely sober for their whole perid of office I think most places would struggle to recruit!

I guess. Makes me feel old though :)

I don't know what I think about it, to be honest. No issues with the drinking and the dancing, she's not harming anyone.

I must admit, I struggle with her age. But I suspect that is mostly due to a general trend in society of "elongated adolescence" over the last few decades. People her age and younger have held huge responsibility in the past and acquitted themselves well.

I guess it's just the contrast of the partying with being in a position of power with Russia on your doorstep and an impending cost of living crisis?

Makes Boris's cake look dull

So people in government are never allowed to party? What kind of people are allowed in government now? TBH the rise of social media put me off any and all public careers.

I think soon only puritans, or those who don’t care what other people say about them, will be in politics - and we will all wonder why no one nice ever ends up as Prime Minister.

mids2019 · 18/08/2022 16:42

One thing though is that surely a civil servant would need to get into contact with the PM in an event of say a Russian missile hitting Finland or some other disaster? If you are drunk how can you respond quickly to those events?

I guess being a politician now means a huge level of social media control. Also I get the impression her friends were a little naïve letting this leak as surely they knew there would be political comeback.

I see zero problem with it. She's drunk and dancing, so what? I'm beyond certain that Johnson has been equally inebriated while at 'work', let alone in his private life. (Obviously he shouldn't be, but I suspect the people who think she shouldn't be dancing will excuse his behaviour.)

I did read someone in the room was shouting about cocaine, which is not great tbh... but is entirely normal for a group of wealthy 30 year olds 🤷

She seems to be handling russia quite well

Now I wonder who was behind the leaking of the video. Hmm. Who would benefit most from discrediting her

mids2019 · 18/08/2022 17:01

I guess we had Give at a nightclub recently and he got a lampooning from the British press but no real political impact (possibly a bit sad though)

Hope the hangover wasn't too bad though.....

I've only heard of her since the Ukraine crisis but on the whole this is a young woman by politics standards and she seems to have done a good job,she let her hair down should we really judge her for that

dameofdilemma · 25/08/2022 14:06

The media coverage smacks of sexism - Sanna Marin has committed the multiple cardinal sins of being:
a young, attractive woman in power AND
relatively good at her job (by all accounts) AND
having fun (surely she should have been home with her child).

How very dare she. She must be punished and sneered at.
Especially as she doesn't even have the decency to be posh and rich either.

If Finland don't want her (and sadly its a possibility she won't be re-elected) I'd gladly vote for her as Britain's PM. A comparatively efficient, effective PM, with a genuine interest in women's rights and a background not steeped in privilege, wealth and elitism. I'd take that over Boris/Sunak/Truss any day.
