I've rembered the question I was going to ask!
I thought Wordle answers were always the root of the word but there have been a couple of solutions that confused me.
One was fungi. That's a plural word so thought it wouldn't be used. The other word I think was "ruder". I didn't think the answer would be a comparative.
Does anyone know what the criteria are for words included (as opposed to accepted as a guess)?

Look at this - all the letters but in the wrong positions!

I don't recall if there's been a definitive answer as to what words are included, has anyone else read anything about it? I remember reading at the beginning it was meant to be a list of 2000 common words, but a few of the previous words don't seem to have been very commonly used words.
The other games like Quordle etc seem to use all 5 letter words, even if they are very obscure.

Regarding plurals, someone in the earlier threads said that there are no plurals (ie with s's) in, which does seems to have been the case so far. Maybe US english uses fungi (funghi!) as a singular as well?

I'd read that Wordle doesn't use plurals or verbs ending in S.
So not BOATS or LOOKS.
But I think a non S plural like FUNGI is OK, as is other words ending in S like BONUS.
I admit I was unsure about trying RUDER but I had run out of letters by the time I guessed it

Thanks @MinkyTunes and @BruceAndNosh . I'm glad I'm not the only one unsure. I got both of the ones I queried because like you I'd run out of other options. I'll be more ready to try other options in the future.

I thought RUDER was an unusual choice of word.

Maybe the person who wrote the rules on what plurals are allowed has participated in a Flamingo Christmas. When the same argument over scrabble has happened annually for decades
