What's unmissable in Bath?

I'm spending a solo long weekend there! All I know so far is that I'm going to walk the Bath Skyline and do a lot of eating, so hit me with the best things to see, do and eat 🙂

Thanks!

Go for a twilight session at the Therma spa and watch the sun go down from the roof top pool.

Robyn188 · 17/08/2022 16:20

Make sure you book this in advance, otherwise you might not get in.
The Roman baths are amazing, it's really atmospheric, and also the Costume Museum is well worth a visit.

Oak restaurant is fabulous.

If you are a fan of the regency novel, (Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer) you might want to visit the Pump Rooms, and maybe see if there is some sort of guided walk. With hindsight, I think I would take a copy of Northanger Abbey and follow the footsteps of Catherine Morland!

It's lovely but be prepared to queue, it's heaving again! (Was so lovely in 2020 when all the tourist attractions were shutWink)

The abbey is a must

Floralnomad · 17/08/2022 17:00

The Abbey was the highlight for us .

harridan50 · 17/08/2022 17:02

San Francisco Fudge Factory if you have a sweet tooth. I still have fond memories of the fudge from a visit many years ago.

I've just come back from a solo trip! It was lovely, so relaxing just pleasing myself and taking my time to do things at my pace. The roman baths are fascinating, I went twice. First time with the audio tour and that was at 9, no queue. Last time was just to wander at my own pace at 8pm, no queue. Anytime in between seemed to be heaving!

I took an open top bus around the skyline. Boat trip was fantastic. Had a memorable pie at The Raven. Mooched about a lot...

Already booked next year.

RishiRich · 17/08/2022 17:10

The Wood Fired Pizza Company has excellent pizzas. It's just round the corner from the Abbey.

The Roman baths are unmissable. They do evenings by candlelight which adds to the atmosphere.

The tower tour of the Abbey is fun and you get a great view.

The hop on, hop off buses are good value and if you get off at Prior Park you can take a lovely walk back down the hill into Bath.

I was just there with my daughter! We both agreed the the Holburne Museum was a must see (top of Great Pulteney St near the lovely Sydney Gardens). There's a David Hockney drawing exhibit (kinda meh - but it was air conditioned and we were there in 34 degree heat) but the rest is fantastic, and not so big as to get overwhelming. We learned so much about the area!
We stayed at 95 Sydney Place where they filmed the 1995 version of Persuasion - watch it and Bridgerton and you'll recognise so many places around town.
The Abbey of course, the Baths (there'll be an audio tour), numerous churches if you like those. We didn't do the hop on and off bus, so much is walkable but if you are heading to the Royal Crescent that's quite a climb.
We spent over two hours just walking down Great Pulteney St and over the bridge - the charity shops are very good - she bagged three outfits! And a lovely if pricey one to 7 year old shop. Lots of places to stop for essential refreshments- one right on the bridge with fantastic views. Loads of great restaurants- we had dinner at Antica (Italian) and afternoon tea at the Pump Room (lovely).
Walcott street was supposed to be good and there's a small Saturday market but we never got there - too bloody hot and we opted to sit in a lovely square and listen to a couple musicians.
Really loved it can't wait to go back!

Fudge shop but I can't remember is name. It's very small. They make the fudge there.

CruCru · 17/08/2022 17:56

Definitely the Roman Baths

RampantIvy · 17/08/2022 18:02

I was in Bath a couple of weeks ago. Everything pp have mentioned are all worth seeing.

The Lebanese restaurant near the station is excellent, and they take food allergies very seriously.

Avoid the Jane Austen Experience. It is a complete rip off.

florianfortescue · 17/08/2022 18:37

I used to live there and this is making me extremely "homesick"!

The spa at sunset and afternoon tea at the Pump Room would be unmissable for me. Picnic lunch in front of the Royal Crescent too.

Have a wonderful time, it's a beautiful city!

In what way is the Jane Austen experience a rip off please? DD is desperate to go but if she will be as disappointed as she was with the Sherlock museum in London I’ll save my money!

Anna783426 · 17/08/2022 19:15

Sally Lunn's for a bath bun cream tea with cinnamon butter!

Rapidtango · 17/08/2022 19:21

Chai Walla if you're looking for a quick takeaway lunch.
Persephone Books have just opened in Bath - it's on my list for next visit.
Baths, Abbey, No 1 Royal Crescent.
It's a lovely city for mooching.
